BlackRock Sells Out US Interests For 'Personal Favors' In China, Consumer Group Director Says

BlackRock, the world’s largest investment manager that oversees $10 trillion in client funds, has positioned itself as a socially conscious firm. However, the company is choosing China over the United States as it advances its environmental and social priorities, according to Will Hild, executive director of Washginton-based nonprofit Consumers’ Research.

Hild said BlackRock CEO Larry Fink is “selling out the interests of American consumers and American companies in the United States, in return for personal favors for BlackRock in mainland China,” during a recent interview with EpochTV’s “China Insider” program.

Fink has been one of the most prominent advocates for ESG investment, which is investing in companies that agree to uphold certain environmental, social, and governance standards.

However, according to Fink, ESG “is an excuse for Wall Street to push politics into corporate America.” In other words, Wall Street is pushing ESG policies that “could never be achieved at the ballot box,” he added.

Additionally, BlackRock has also taken up the position of supporting a net-zero emission future. The company’s website tells its clients that “climate transition creates a historic investment opportunity.” In a 2020 letter to CEOs, Fink wrote that “climate risk is investment risk.”

While BlackRock has pushed U.S. companies such as ExxonMobil to embrace green energy, it has not taken the same approach with Chinese firms, according to Hild.

“Ironically, Blackrock controls about the same amount of shares, about seven-and-a-half percent, of PetroChina as they do Exxon, but they don’t engage in any of the same behavior when it comes to that company,” he said, such as pushing Chinese companies to adopt net-zero policies.

Another Top Staffer Leaves Biden Admin – White House Counsel Departing Next Month

Another top White House staffer is leaving the Biden Admin.

White House Counsel Dana Remus will departing next month, Joe Biden announced on Wednesday.

“I am immensely grateful for the service of Dana Remus, who has been an invaluable member of my senior staff for the past 3 years and helped reinstate a culture of adherence to the rule of law. I wish her the best as she moves forward,” Biden said in a White House statement.

Biden announced that “Stuart Delery will become the next Assistant to the President and White House Counsel. He will step into the role next month after Dana Remus departs the White House.”

Stuart Delery currently serves as Deputy Counsel to Joe Biden.

Recall, Joe Biden previously rejected Trump’s claims of executive privilege and ordered the former president’s White House logs to be released to the January 6 Committee.

Dana Remus was behind the attack on Trump and worked with career lawyers to make sure Trump’s records would be handed over to the Democrats in the legislative branch.

“The President has determined that an assertion of executive privilege is not in the best interests of the United States, and therefore is not justified, as to these records and portions of records,” Biden’s counsel Dana Remus wrote in the letter dated Feb. 15.

Biden also announced former Atlanta Mayor Keisha ‘defund the police’ Lance Bottoms will be joining his White House as a senior aide.

It was reported last month that Black staffers are fleeing the Biden White House because they believe there is virtually no chance for promotion.

“We’re here and we’re doing a lot of work but we’re not decision-makers and there’s no real path towards becoming decision-makers,” one current Black White House official told Politico reporter Daniel Lippman. “There is no real feedback and there’s no clear path to any kind of promotions.”

BHP announces plans to close NSW's largest coal mine at Mt Arthur by 2030

Mining giant BHP has failed to find a buyer for New South Wales' largest coal mine, and will close the operation in 2030.

The company spent two years trying to sell its Mt Arthur operation in the state's Hunter Valley, which employs 2,000 people.

The mine, near Muswellbrook, is approved to operate until 2026, but BHP has told the ASX it would apply to extend that until 2030.

After that, it will close.

Rehabilitation of the site is expected to take 10 to 15 years.

The mine's pit was today shut temporarily while employees were informed of the decision.

BHP's minerals president Edgar Basto said the company had reviewed potential options for the mine, including divestment and future investment requirements.

"Seeking approval to continue mining until 2030 avoids closure in 2026 and enables BHP to balance the value and risk of those considerations and our commitments to our people and local communities," he said.

The mine was once valued at $2 billion, but that has been progressively slashed.

After a write-down last year, BHP said the mine was worth nothing, once rehabilitation obligations were factored in.

Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell said BHP's decision to operate the mine until 2030 was "good news for the Hunter Valley".

"There are a lot of jobs that are involved at Mount Arthur and I need to make sure that those jobs are maintained for the foreseeable future," he said.

"It's good that they go through the extension."

The Nationals MP said the decision to continue operating the mine until 2030 wouldn't impact the NSW government's blueprint to get to net zero emissions by 2050.

"This is all coal that is exported overseas," he said.
