Like most soft sciences, but NLP doesn't care about a rigorous mathematical proof as much as getting the results that it desires. This is why it is NOT THE ONLY tool reached for in a bag of tricks. Usually there is a backup tool or several layers. You can always resort to intimidation as well, subtly or not so subtle. Who needs a proof if it works for you?
