He had to be sacrificed. Jesus was not a fortune-teller and didn't know exactly when or how, but when the moment came he whispered his wish to be betrayed to his best friend. That way he could save face rather than walking like a lamb to the slaughter. Judas was his BEST FREN, so of course he'd be willing to portray a turncoat since Jesus was going to die anyway. The space between the lines requires the space between thine ears.
