Let them 'refuse' to protect Texas. Texas will eliminate all the cartel gangs on it's land border with Mexico within a week or two. AMLO will recognize Texas as a sovereign Republic and make treaties and security agreements. Mexicans living near (60-100 miles) the Texas border will finally have celebrations.
In fact, if this happens, and I hope it does, this anon's picking up and moving to Texas.
It's the federal government which is holding the Texans hands. The state legislature has dropped some huge bombs lately. Declared that Biden is not their lawful president. Declared homosexuality a perverse choice. It wouldn't surprise me if the legislature will declare they have a right to stop the invasion with all means necessary. And at the same time put out a notice that they will shoot all human smugglers on sight, even if they are technically on Mexican territory.
Oh yeah. The legislature could declare all those NGO members who are giving aid to the invaders, giving them cash cards and free legal services are prohibited from entering Texas. If any Texans are working with these NGO's they will be given safe protected passage out of Texas. (That should free up a lot of space in the Hill Country, San Antonio and a few other 'woke' spots).
