Texas top cop: Uvalde police could've ended rampage early on

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said Tuesday that the city has “specific legal reasons” that it's not answering questions publicly or releasing records.“There is no cover-up," he said in a statement.

Police haven’t found any red flags in Ramos' school disciplinary files but learned through interviews that he engaged in cruelty to animals. “He walked around with a bag of dead cats,” McCraw said.?

There is no coverup’: Uvalde mayor says city aims for transparency, but can’t comment on shooting investigation for legal reasons

An image surfaced online from the surveillance video inside Robb Elementary during the shooting, showing that officers were armed with ballistic shields, guns and other tools while in the hallway, ready to approach the gunman despite Arredondo’s orders to wait.

In addition to being the Uvalde CISD chief of police, Arredondo was sworn in as a city councilman in a private ceremony the week after the shooting.

He has not made an appearance at a Council meeting and has largely been in hiding since the shooting.

https://www.policygenius.com/life-insurance/dead-peasant-insurance/

The nickname dead peasant insurance started in the 1980s, when several large companies — including Walmart, Procter & Gamble, Nestle, and Winn-Dixie — bought corporate-owned life insurance policies on thousands of regular employees. [1]

This was done for tax benefits, not to profit from the deaths of employees. But because companies did it without telling employees — and raked in millions through tax breaks and death benefits — critics started calling it dead peasant insurance.
