China Faces Power Shortage As Heatwave Pushes Demand To Record

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said this week that China should increase its coal production capacity in order to prevent power outages, as the northern and central parts of the country are baking in a heatwave that is driving power consumption to record levels.

China needs to “resolutely prevent power outages,” the premier was quoted as saying on Tuesday while a heatwave sweeps through northern and central China, while heavy rain in the southern provinces is flooding cities, including in the most populous province, Guangdong.

Consumers are cranking up air conditioning in the north, driving power demand in China to records, and threatening to overwhelm the Chinese power grid again.

China has significantly boosted its coal production in recent months, following government orders for more coal supply. Faced with power shortages last autumn, Chinese authorities ordered an increase in domestic coal production as global coal prices soared.

In March, China’s daily coal production hit a record high as it jumped by 15 percent compared to March 2021.

However, Chinese miners are looking to meet the required quantity regardless of the quality, which is often low and less efficient when burnt at coal-fired power stations.

So, despite a boom in coal production in recent months, China could experience another power crunch this summer as miners race to meet government targets with lower-quality coal, analysts and traders told Reuters earlier this week.

China has put more emphasis on energy security in recent months. Earlier this year, China said it would continue to maximize the use of coal in the coming years as it caters to its energy security, despite pledges to contribute to global efforts to reduce emissions.

China is concerned about its energy security after the autumn 2021 power crisis and, most recently, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which pushed energy commodity prices sky-high.

VP Kamala Harris claims SCOTUS 2A decision 'defies' the Constitution

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down a New York state law which had prohibited applicants from receiving a concealed weapons permit without first demonstrating "proper cause." Vice President Kamala Harris has since responded to the ruling, saying that it "defies common sense and the Constitution of the United States."

In her opening remarks to a convocation of state attorneys general, Harris, a former AG of California, stated that she and President Biden "are deeply concerned and troubled by the Supreme Court's ruling," which she also claimed "defies logic."

Later in the speech, Harris reiterated the singular role that state AGs play in securing "fundamental rights and freedoms" and identified abortion as an example of a "right" that is currently in dire need of protection.

About the attorneys general in the audience, Harris said, "We are specifically going to talk about an extension of their responsibilities which has to do with the responsibility to concern themselves with the priority of ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the women in their state and the protection of their reproductive rights and freedoms."

The language and tone she used in her discussion of abortion contrasted starkly with the language and tone she used in her discussion of the SCOTUS decision. She even seemed to express frustration that the Supreme Court affirmed the Second Amendment for the people.

After referencing the massacre in Buffalo, New York, and in Uvalde, Texas, Harris said, "We can go on down the list about why it, yet again, is on the front pages, so to speak, of the concerns of the American people about what we can and what we have a responsibility to do in terms of reasonable gun safety laws."

SCOTUS did not agree that the New York state gun law requiring "proper cause" to be a "reasonable gun safety law."

"We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need," Justice Clarence Thomas wrote on behalf of the majority. "That is not how the First Amendment works when it comes to unpopular speech or the free exercise of religion. It is not how the Sixth Amendment works when it comes to a defendant's right to confront the witnesses against him. And it is not how the Second Amendment works when it comes to public carry for self-defense."

Supporters of the 6-3 decision claim it's the most important Second Amendment ruling since the District of Columbia v. Heller court case a decade ago.

San Francisco school board votes for merit-based admissions after recall of left-wing board members

A school in San Francisco will return to merit-based admissions after angry parents recalled left-wing school board members.

One of the contentious issues that led to the recall was the implementation of an admissions lottery at Lowell High School in order to rectify historical inequities and increase diversity in the school's student body.

On Wednesday, the San Francisco Unified School District's Board of Education voted 4 to 3 to end the lottery system and return to a merit-based admissions policy for the fall of 2023.

All three of the new board members voted for the return of the merit system.

The recall of three left-wing school board members in February by an overwhelming vote made national headlines as yet another example of Democrats losing support across the country.

One recalled school board member blamed "white supremacy" for her dismissal despite the racially diverse makeup of the San Francisco electorate. Board of Supervisors president Shamann Walton similarly blamed former President Donald Trump and the racism he allegedly inspired among San Franciscans.

Activists protested in front of the San Francisco Unified School District office ahead of the vote in support of the merit based system.

“The real issue is that the SFUSD has been failing to prepare an ethnically diverse range of students for academic success for decades,” said Kit Lam, a district parent and activist. “Targeting Lowell is not the solution and only covers up other education failures.”

The decision to return to merit-based admissions might be challenged by opponents in court based on a California law that prohibits admissions that are based on school performance.

Later in June, voters in San Francisco also chose to recall the city's district attorney after he instituted left-wing policies that focused less on law enforcement and crime skyrocketed in the left-leaning city.

MTG Authors Bill to Designate Radical Abortion Groups as Domestic Terrorists, Citing a Long List of Recent Attacks.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is stepping up where establishment Republicans have failed for years.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has authored a bill which would designate radical anti-life, pro-mass abortion groups Jane’s Revenge and Ruth Sent Us as domestic terror factions, following a spate of vicious attacks on pro-life groups as well as the recent attempted murder of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The bill follows a letter obtained by the Daily Wire which revealed growing support for the move amongst Republicans in the United States Congress.

Seen first by The National Pulse, the bill is believed to count Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) and Andy Harris (R-MD) as cosponsors, and states: “This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protecting Mothers and Babies from Terrorism Act.”

A spokesman for the Congresswoman told The National Pulse: “The Democrats’ war on women is real and it is now being waged with firebombs. I am proud to introduce this legislation to hold these groups accountable for their crimes.”

The substance of the bill alleges a litany of attacks from individuals connected with the groups. Twenty-one such cases feature in the Georgia Congresswoman’s bill, including:

The bill concludes: “The conduct of members of the groups ‘‘Jane’s Revenge’’ and ‘‘Ruth Sent Us’’ described in section 2 is deemed to be domestic terrorism (as such term is defined in section 2331 of title 18, United States Code).”

GOPs Call for Firing Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over Vaccine Mandate — Dems and Cheney Opposed

Republicans, led by Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), on Wednesday called for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to be fired if he does not repeal the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate for troops.

“My amendment is simple. It would require the Secretary to repeal his COVID vaccine mandate within 30 days. And if he does not comply with that directive, his waiver to serve as Secretary of Defense would automatically be repealed,” Johnson told the House Armed Services Committee during a session to mark up the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes Pentagon spending and activities.

“There’s a lengthy list of things that have gone wrong. Undersecretary Austin’s tenure at the Department of Defense, perhaps not more damaging than the requirement that service members subject themselves to the COVID vaccine,” Johnson added.

Democrats voted down the amendment. They were joined by one Republican — Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

Johnson detailed the detriment the vaccine mandate has caused the military, in terms of retention and recruitment.

He said out of 22,000 applications for a religious exemption to the vaccine, only 58 had been granted, citing numbers from May. Since then, only several dozens more have been granted, and lawmakers have obtained evidence they are only being granted to service members in the process of already leaving the military.

Johnson said that the vaccine mandate was also hurting the Army’s recruitment and retention of troops, with the Army asking to cut 12,000 soldiers from its 2023 fiscal budget:

Why? Because of the vaccine, more than 40% of males aged 18 to 24 have chosen not to become fully vaccinated in the U.S. and as a result, they are ineligible to join the military. So right off the bat 40% of the target demographic for military service is in fact eligible to serve now..

In my area of the country, the southeast region, where DoD recruits approximately 50% of its enlistments, over half of the male population has not gotten the vaccine. It’s not hard to see where all this is headed. The mandate is forcing qualified people out of the force, and it’s preventing qualified people from joining the force.

So far, the Pentagon has discharged more than 5,000 service members who have chosen not to be fully-vaccinated.
