They did not see us coming
Their dim looking glass has failed
Now we watch from front row seating
As their hurtling train derails
Sparks are flying from their braking
And their engineers are quaking
What commotion they are making
As the sun comes up unveiled
There is one track, they’re on it, and picking up all speed,
They were warned the bridge is out but hubris failed to heed
Pick and shovel, broken axe and blistered tired hands
Have removed their every out
And they can not understand
It’s way past the point escaping
The cavern it is gaping
And their arrogance is fading
As they see there’s no avail.
All their plotting and their staging
All their rancid rearranging
Left them rotting, hear them raging
It’s far too late for bail
Much too fast to think of jumping
Switches frozen or unmanned
While we watch from tree and hayrick
At the wrecking of their plans
Their sparking wheels are grating
But there is no stopping or abating
Their yawning precipice is waiting
As the world is softly waking
Because the digging has prevailed
