Stifling is the opposite of what you want to do. Rather you need to remove all blockers and let emotional side be as it's a part of you. Healthy things let emotions out. Unhealthy things block them in until your emotional side rebels and lets it out explosively or subtly but either way it will come out

For me it's avoiding ampathic people that I care about, I'll get upset that they're upset, and they'll get more upset and etc. etc. I dunno how to handle that sort of thing other than a thought-stopping activity.
