=Supreme Court Overturns President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” Policy for Migrants Who Claim They Are Seeking Asylum

The US Supreme Court, with the help of Justices Roberts and Kavanaugh, sided the Biden Administration in allowing Joe Biden to further weaken US immigration policy and flood the US Southern border with millions of more illegal aliens.

President Trump initiated a law that forced migrants crossing the US Southern border who claim they are seeking asylum remain in Mexico until their cases were reviewed by US Courts. Now that law has been overturned.

The far-left Washington Post reports:

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled for the Biden administration on a controversial immigration policy, saying it had the authority to reverse a Trump-era policy that requires asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their cases are reviewed in U.S. courts.

The vote was 5 to 4, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. writing for himself and Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, and the court’s three liberals, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito Jr., Neil M. Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett dissented.

Barrett said she agreed with the majority on the merits of the decision, but she felt the court should not have decided the case, but remanded it to lower courts.

The justices had expedited review of Biden’s attempt to get rid of the “Remain in Mexico” policy after a lower court judge said the administration had not provided sufficient justification for ending it, and that the administration’s procedures were unlawful.

The ruling by the Court is puzzling. Migrants on the Southern border are taught by radicals to claim that they are fleeing abuse in their native countries and are seeking asylum. This puts these migrants into a special category. What abuse these people are claiming is questionable at best. It’s actually more apparent that the migrants are trained by radicals to make this claim whether true or not.

President initiated a policy to have these individuals remain in Mexico while their cases were reviewed. Now they will be allowed in the US where they will stay God knows where and taken care of by the US government since the number of individuals who make these claims who can cover their own expenses is limited.

This decision also is dangerous as many of the migrants on the border are being trafficked by cartels at the border, making lots of money in their human trafficking operations. The Democrats and the courts are promoting violent acts by allowing this to continue.

In Landmark Ruling, Supreme Court Deals Massive Blow To Biden's Climate Change Agenda

At the same time as it give the Biden admin a token victory by overturning Trump's "remain in Mexico" rule, the US Supreme Court also struck a major blow to Biden's fight against climate change, when in a landmark ruling, the SCOTUS also curbed the ability of America’s top environmental regulator to limit greenhouse gas emissions, siding with coal miners and Republican-led states.

In a majority opinion authored by chief justice John Roberts, the justices ruled that in the latest example of Democratic overreach, the Environmental Protection Agency was not specifically authorized by Congress to reduce carbon emissions when it was set up in 1970. The ruling leaves the Biden administration dependent on passing legislation if it wants to implement sweeping regulations to curb emissions.

The opinion from the court's conservative majority said that “a decision of such magnitude and consequence rests with Congress itself, or an agency acting pursuant to a clear delegation from that representative body”. The justices added they doubted Congress intended to delegate the question of “how much coal-based generation there should be over the coming decades, to any administrative agency”.

The dissenting opinion authored by justice Elena Kagan and joined by the court’s other two liberal justices said the EPA had the authority to regulate “stationary sources” of polluting substances that are harmful to the public, adding that curbing the output of greenhouse gas emissions was “a necessary part of any effective approach for addressing climate change”. In other words, the usual green tripe that has sent the country to the edge of a hyperinflationary commodity disaster.

“This Court has obstructed EPA’s effort from the beginning,” Kagan wrote. “The limits the majority now puts on EPA’s authority fly in the face of the statute Congress wrote.”

As the FT reports, at the heart of the case is a disagreement over how broadly the EPA should be allowed to interpret portions of the 1970 Clean Air Act, particularly the sections that direct the EPA to develop emissions limitations for power plants.

Dubbed West Virginia vs EPA, the case was brought by a host of Republican attorneys-general and the coal industry. Their argument centres on a regulation that never took effect: an Obama-era proposal known as the Clean Power Plan, which would have mandated that power plants make 32 per cent reductions in emissions below 2005 levels by 2030. The Supreme Court ordered that rule to be suspended in 2016.

Biden Calls for Lifting Filibuster to Legalize Abortion After Vicious Attack on Supreme Court at NATO Press Conference in Spain

Joe Biden lit into the Supreme Court at a post-NATO summit press conference in Madrid, Spain Thursday, calling the court “outrageous” and “destabilizing” and calling for suspending the filibuster in the Senate to allow passage of legislation legalizing abortion.

“…The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States on overruling, not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy. We’ve been a leader in the world in terms of personal rights, and privacy rights, and it is a mistake, in my view, for the Supreme Court to do what it did…

“First and foremost thing we should do is make it clear how outrageous this decision was and how much it impacts not just on a woman’s right to choose, which is a critical, critical piece, but on privacy generally, on privacy generally. And, so, I’m gonna be talking to, uh, to the governors as to what actions they think I should be taking as well and uh, but the most important thing to be clear about is, we have to change, I believe we codify Roe v. Wade in the law and the way to do that is to make sure the Congress votes to do that. And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, it should be, we provide an exception for this. We except, we require an exception to the filibuster for this action.”

Republican activist Matt Whitlock commented on Biden’s overseas attack on the court, “Quite an ugly moment from President unity who ran on respecting and preserving out institutions. Also allowing states to set abortion laws more in line with Europe than China is not “destabilizing the world.” Imagine thinking world stability depended on abortion on demand…There was an attempted assassination on a Supreme Court Justice just 3 weeks ago, which Biden has refused to condemn. His AG has refused to enforce the law protecting them from potentially dangerous protests at their homes. Now he’s attacking their legitimacy on the world stage.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger Trashes Rep. Boebert, Calls Her the ‘Christian Taliban’

Rep. Adam Kinzinger called on people to oppose Rep. Lauren Boebert by referring to her as the “Christian Taliban.”

Kinzinger was upset about Boebert’s comments about how “the church is supposed to direct the government.”

“There is no difference between this and the Taliban. We must oppose the Christian Taliban. I say this as a Christian,” Kinzinger, who is reportedly nondenominational Protestant, said in a tweet.

The sleazy Never-Trumper also shared an article from The Hill about the congresswoman’s speech at Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colorado.

“I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk—that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter, and it means nothing like they say it does,” Boebert said. “The church is supposed to direct the government.”

Rep. Boebert won the Republican primary this week and will be seeking another term. She defeated her challenger by a massive 30 points.

For someone who claims to be Christian, Kinzinger has taken a lot of digs at the faith recently.

Earlier this month, Kinzinger said that “there are a number of churches that have basically become, you know, from a house of worship of Christ and of God to a house of worship of Donald Trump.”

“We need pastors, we need priests. We need leaders who are going to stand up in front of the pulpit and say, we welcome Democrats in this audience as well, and we’re not going to sit here and worship Donald Trump because he’s a very flawed man. In fact, all men are flawed,” Kinzinger continued.

West violated key NATO-Russia treaty – Lavrov

The Founding Act of 1997 legally remains in force, but has effectively been violated by the US-led bloc, Lavrov claimed

Neither Russia nor NATO has ever formally denounced the 1997 Founding Act, but in practice it does not work because the bloc is in violation of it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assessed on Thursday. There were some who believed that the key document would be scrapped by NATO during the summit of its leaders in Madrid.

“In a legal sense, the Founding Act continues to exist, we have not initiated the procedure for terminating this agreement,” the minister said during a press conference.

“The decisions that were taken [in Madrid] grossly violate the terms of the Founding Act, first of all the parts regarding NATO’s obligation not to host on a permanent basis any significant troops in the territories of the new – meaning Eastern European – member states,” Lavrov said.

He was referring to NATO’s decision this week to further build up its military presence at the Russian border.

The Russian minister’s assessment of the viability of the 1997 document coincided with that of his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, who is one of the most vocal critics of Russia.

The Russian government has made it clear that the NATO-Russia Founding Act is no longer worth anything to it. So we now have to acknowledge that this basic act was also unilaterally terminated by Russia, not by NATO,” Baerbock told reporters after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in May.

The key treaty was adopted as NATO was planning to expand in Europe, triggering concerns from Russia. Moscow said doing so would violate prior assurances that the alliance would not move past a unified Germany, as that posed a threat to Russian national security.

The first post-Cold War wave of NATO enlargement that incorporated the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland into the bloc came two years later, with more waves following against Russian objections.

Moscow has long complained about the inefficiency of the NATO-Russia Council, a forum where the two parties were supposed to settle grievances, which was established by the Act. However, the alliance used it to simply stonewall Russia, it claimed.

Russia fully suspended its office at NATO HQ in Brussels in October 2021, after the organization kicked out eight Russian diplomats for allegedly working for Russian intelligence. NATO’s office in Moscow was consequently shut down.

Biden Admin Inks $3.2 Billion Deal With Pfizer For 105 Million COVID-19 Vaccines

The Biden administration said it has signed a new agreement with Pfizer and partner BioNTech for 105 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine for a fall vaccination campaign, with the deal worth $3.2 billion.

The contract includes doses for both adults and children, as well as supplies of a retooled Omicron-adapted vaccine that is currently pending approval by federal health authorities, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said in a statement.

“We look forward to taking delivery of these new variant-specific vaccines and working with state and local health departments, pharmacies, health care providers, federally qualified health centers, and other partners to make them available in communities around the country this fall,” said HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dawn O’Connell.

Pharmaceutical firms have been developing vaccines for the Omicron variant that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says is the dominant strain in the United States.

“This agreement will provide additional doses for U.S. residents and help cope with the next COVID-19 wave. Pending regulatory authorization, it will also include an Omicron-adapted vaccine, which we believe is important to address the rapidly spreading Omicron variant,” Sean Marett, Chief Business and Chief Commercial Officer of BioNTech, said in a statement.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to issue a decision in the coming days following a Tuesday meeting in which external advisers recommended modifying the vaccines to better target Omicron.

Under the new Pfizer contract, the U.S. government has the option to buy an additional 195 million doses, bringing the total up to 300 million, HHS said.

“Over the past 18 months, we have procured and delivered more than 750 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine nationwide, contributing to two-thirds of American adults being fully vaccinated,” O’Connell said.

Biden Says Turkey Will Get New F-16 Jets, Claims "No Quid Pro Quo" With Erdogan

President Joe Biden in his Thursday press conference from the Madrid NATO summit claimed that he's never waivered on supporting a new F-16 sale to Turkey, also emphasizing in response to a reporter's question that there was "no quid pro quo" with Erdogan regarding Finland and Sweden's entry into NATO.

"Biden at press conference says the United States should sell Turkey the F-16 fighter jets but adds there was no quid pro quo in relation to Ankara's lifting of its veto for Finland and Sweden," a Reuters correspondent writes of his latest statements. "Says Congress approval needed for sale but he's confident that can obtained."

The day prior, the US assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs Celeste Wallander previewed the White House stance in saying, "Strong Turkish defense capabilities contribute to strong NATO defense capabilities." She added, "The US Department of Defense fully supports Turkey’s modernization plans for its F-16 fleet."

Concerning the assertion that there was "no quid pro quo", the statements come the day after Biden and Erdogan met on the sidelines of the two-day NATO summit. One regional report emphasized of that meeting:

On the same day, Biden thanked Erdogan profusely for revoking his opposition to the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO.

"I want to particularly thank you for what you did putting together the situation with regard to Finland and Sweden," Biden told Erdogan at a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid.

So it looks precisely like Turkey's sudden flip on the NATO membership question was centered on the US offering to grease the wheels and fully back and expedite approval for the F-16 transfer.

Starting in October, Turkey said it formally requested of Washington approval to buy 40 Lockheed Martin-made F-16 fighter jets and nearly 80 modernization kits, which would upgrade its current fleet of fighter jets.

Erdogan's government had been consistent in denouncing Swedish and Finish "support" for Kurdish "terrorist" groups, namely the outlawed PKK and its affiliates, for example in northern Syria. The two countries agreed this week to designate it a terrorist organization, while agreeing to other demands of Ankara regarding things like extraditing alleged terror operatives back to Turkey.

Was the F-16 deal Erdogan's "reward" for lifting objections over Finland and Sweden's accession? It certainly appears so.

US To Establish Permanent Base in Poland as Part of Europe Military Expansion

Biden also announced the US will send additional F-35 squadrons to Britain and add a 'rotational brigade' of troops to Romania

President Biden announced Wednesday during the NATO summit in Madrid steps that the US will take to increase its military presence in Europe, including the establishment of a permanent base in Poland.

The base in Poland will mark the first time the US will establish an official permanent military facility in the area known as NATO’s “eastern flank.” The US military presence elsewhere in Eastern Europe and in the Baltic states is technically on a rotational basis, although Washington has no plans to scale back its presence in the region.

Under the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act, NATO agreed not to establish a permanent military presence east of Germany. US officials insist the base in Poland does not violate the act since it is only a permanent facility, and the troops will be deployed rotationally, but it’s unlikely Moscow will see it that way.

Other measures Biden announced include sending a “rotational brigade” of 5,000 troops to Romania, stepping up rotational deployments to the Baltics, sending two additional F-35 squadrons to the UK, and stationing more air defenses in Germany in Italy. A day earlier, Biden announced the US was sending two more Navy Destroyers to Spain.

“I said Putin’s looking for the Finlandization of Europe,” Biden said on Wednesday. “He’s going to get the NATOization of Europe. And that is exactly what he didn’t want, but exactly what needs to be done to guarantee security for Europe. And I think it’s necessary.”

The deployments are a step towards keeping US troops levels in Europe at over 100,000. Before the US began reinforcing its military presence in Europe around the time Russia invaded Ukraine, about 80,000 US troops were assigned to the continent.

While building up military forces in Eastern Europe and pouring billions of dollars worth of weapons into Ukraine, Biden has abandoned diplomacy with Russia altogether. As a result, the risk of a direct conflict between the two powers, which could quickly spiral into nuclear war, is at its greatest height since the Cold War.

Florida pastor arrested for allegedly masturbating outside Starbucks

A Florida pastor has been arrested for exposing himself and masturbating outside a Starbucks, authorities said.

Enginio Dali Muniz-Colon, 39, was taken into custody Monday and charged with exposure of sexual organs.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said Muniz-Colon is a pastor in Kissimmee and teaches online ministry classes.

Authorities had been investigating ever since they received a report of a man masturbating on a patio outside the Starbucks on May 9.

Deputies said they eventually identified Muniz-Colon as the suspect and determined he’d previously been charged over a similar incident at the same Starbucks.

Authorities didn’t provide any further details about the pastor’s prior arrest.

Biden Sending More Weapons to Ukraine as NATO Prepares for Long Fight

MADRID—President Joe Biden said on Thursday the United States will provide another $800 million in weapons and military aid to Ukraine, hailing the courage of Ukrainians since Russia invaded in February.

Speaking after a NATO summit that saw the alliance also agree to take in Finland and Sweden, Biden said the United States and its NATO allies were united in standing up to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I don’t know how it’s going to end, but it will not end with Russia defeating Ukraine,” Biden told a news conference. “Ukraine has already dealt a severe blow to Russia.”

Biden, who appeared to be readying allies for a long conflict in Ukraine despite talk in March of a possible victory, added: “We are going to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.” He declined to give more details.

The pending formal announcement of more weapons would come on top of the more than $6.1 billion already announced by the United States since Russia forces rolled into Ukraine on Feb. 24.

Biden had earlier pledged more American troops, warplanes, and warships for Europe as NATO agreed to strengthen its deterrents, putting more than 300,000 troops on high alert from the middle of next year.

“The U.S. is doing exactly what I said we would do if Russia invaded, enhance our force posture in Europe,” Biden said. “The United States is rallying the world to stand with Ukraine.”

Russian Reprisals?

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said London would provide another 1 billion pounds ($1.22 billion) in military aid to Ukraine, while his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron said France would soon deliver six more CAESAR guns.

Britain’s contribution includes air defense systems and new electronic warfare equipment, taking support to more than 2.3 billion pounds since Moscow’s invasion, a financial sum the British government said was second only to U.S. aid.

Putin did not appear ready to withdraw or negotiate the terms of a peace deal, Johnson said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook slammed for gushing interview with Chinese ‘propaganda rag’

A Republican congressman lashed out at Tim Cook for giving an interview earlier this month to a Chinese state-owned media entity in which the Apple chief executive praised China’s software and app developers as “inspiring” and “innovative.”

“With more than 5 million Chinese developers and counting, there is no question that China has one of the most vibrant developer communities in the entire world,” Cook told China Daily in a June 16 video interview that was posted on the publication’s YouTube site.

Cook said that his encounters with Chinese developers leave him “impressed by [their] creativity and passion for using technology to enrich people’s lives.”

The Apple boss was effusive in his praise of China’s small developers who “have seen their revenues almost doubled in just over two years.”

“This is phenomenal,” Cook said. The Apple CEO took time to speak on the sidelines of this month’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.

“I can’t tell you how inspired I am by the innovation and creativity you brought to your work throughout the entire pandemic,” he said.

“You really poured your heart and souls into delivering incredible apps that help people stay active and entertained and productive, learning and healthy.”

Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) was infuriated by Cook’s gushing interview, particularly in light of Apple’s image in the US as a progressive company that supported the Black Lives Matter movement as well as other mainstream liberal positions on various issues.

Waltz and other critics of Apple claim that while the company and other firms with extensive business ties to China are quick to criticize American faults, they have nothing to say about Beijing’s human rights abuses, including its mass detention of Uyghur Muslims.

“This further underscores the hypocrisy of corporate America, which preaches social justice at home and turns a blind eye when it comes to its profits,” Waltz told the Washington Free Beacon.

UK Govt Trains Hundreds of Ukrainian Soldiers in Britain, Pledges Another £1bn in Aid

Boris Johnson’s government has confirmed that hundreds of Ukrainian soliders are being trained in Britain and pledged an additional £1 billion ($1,213,635,000) in militray aid to the country.

“Putin’s brutality continues to take Ukrainian lives and threaten peace and security across Europe,” declared Prime Minister Boris Johnson at a NATO summit in the Spanish capital of Madrid, according to the BBC.

“As Putin fails to make the gains he had anticipated and hoped for and the futility of this war becomes clear to all, his attacks against the Ukrainian people are increasingly barbaric,” the British premier accused, further insisting that “UK weapons, equipment and training are transforming Ukraine’s defences against this onslaught.”

British forces are training around 450 Ukrainian soldiers to operate Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) on British soil, with Ukraine’s President Zelensky having told Western leaders in Madrid that that they need to provide his country with more long-range weapons to “break the Russian artillery advantage”.

Vitaliy Kim, a governor in eastern Ukraine, warned earlier in June that the Russo-Ukrainian conflict is now “a war of artillery… and we are out of ammo.”

Separately, President Zelensky complained that “Russia still receives billions every day [in energy payments] and spends them on war,” noting that his own country has “a multibillion-dollar deficit, we don’t have oil and gas to cover it”.

The Johnson administration has therefore pledged that, alongide the MLRS training and a donation of newly-purchased howitzers, the British government will be granting the Ukrainian governmnet a further £1 billion in aid — despite a worsening cost of living crisis and budget deficit at home — making it the second-highest international contributor to Kyiv’s coffers behind the Joe Biden administration in the considerably wealthier United States.

At a G7 summit just days ago, Prime Minister Johnson appeared to discourage Ukraine from striking a peace deal with Russia, warning that “sometimes the price of freedom is worth paying” — although he has not actually committed British forces to the conflict.

He also made the ahistorical observation that “it took the democracies in the middle of the last century a long time to recognise that they had to resist tyranny and aggression” and that while “[i]t took them a long time [to do so] what it bought in the end, with the defeat of the dictators, particularly of Nazi Germany, [was] decades and decades of stability [and] a world order that relied on a rules-based international system.”

In fact, dictators in the Stalin-led Soviet Union and what would become the People’s Republic of China were strengthened by the war, and much of the latter half of the 20th-century was marred by destabilising proxy conflicts and the threat of nuclear war.

I Can't Say It, We're Being Recorded: HHS Sec Almost Leaks Illegal Plans for Abortion, Clams up When He Notices Camera

During a Saturday interview with NBC News’ Kate Snow at the Aspen Ideas Health conference, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra suggested his agency is considering providing taxpayer-funded transportation to women seeking out-of-state abortions.

Snow asked Becerra what steps the administration is taking “to help women” in response to the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

“Well, we’re working with centers like Planned Parenthood, we are restoring funding for Title 10, family planning services. We are working with supporters on the ground to make sure that we are providing services to women where we can,” the Secretary said.

He added, “We are looking into everything, including assisting in transportation, something that HHS doesn’t typically do.”

This caught Snow’s attention. “Can you do that legally?” she asked.

Becerra smiled conspiratorially and said, “Talk to me later,” eliciting laughter from the audience.

Snow said, “That’s a big question, right?”

“I always tell my team at HHS, ‘If you’ve done your homework, then we have no right to go mild. And so, we’re going to be aggressive and go all the way.

“I would tell you if … you’re recording so I won’t tell you,” he added. He smiles again, which draws more laughter from the crowd.

“This is all on the record, Mr. Secretary.” Snow tells him.

“We are looking at every option and among those is transportation.”

Snow asks him to repeat his last remark.

“We are looking at every option and among those is transportation.”

Snow clarifies, “Transporting women to other states.”

Becerra was being coy because he knows that the use of taxpayer funds to pay for abortion-related expenses would be a violation of the Hyde Amendment. This legislation prohibits the “use of federal funds for any health benefits coverage that includes abortion.” Exceptions to this law include rape, incest or if an abortion is required to protect the mother’s life.

Biden’s lead among rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination took a big hit after his memorable “flip-flop-flip” on his support of the Hyde Amendment in the summer of 2019.

Considering the Biden administration’s general contempt for the Constitution and federal laws that apply to them, they’re not likely to let it stand in their way.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s Victims Demand Investigation into Epstein’s Powerful Friends

After Ghislaine Maxwell was jailed for 20 years for her role in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring on Tuesday, their victims are now demanding an investigation into the deceased pedophile’s powerful friends.

During her sentencing hearing this week, the judge threw the book at Maxwell for procuring underage girls for Epstein and his mysterious “client list” to sexually abuse.

60-year-old Maxwell was jailed for two decades after being convicted on multiple sex trafficking charges last year.

As Slay News first reported, Maxwell named Bill and Hillary Clinton’s charity organization while begging for a lighter sentence.

In a desperate bid for leniency, Maxwell claimed in court filings that she helped “launch and develop” the Clinton Global Initiative.

However, prosecutors warned Maxwell that the information wasn’t enough to cut a deal and she needed to name other accomplices.

Maxwell refused to reveal details of Epstein’s powerful client list, and on Tuesday, the judge sent her down.

Lawyers representing Epstein’s victims are now urging U.S. authorities to investigate Britain’s Prince Andrew and any others connected to his crimes.

Andrew’s role in the Epstein scandal led to a spectacular fall from grace.

The duke, 62, has largely withdrawn from public life since reaching a $16 million out-of-court settlement with his rape accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre earlier this year.

NATO admits it’s been preparing for conflict with Russia since 2014

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters on Wednesday that increases in military spending and rising numbers of troop deployments in Eastern Europe since 2014 were carried out in anticipation of a conflict with Russia.

Speaking after a meeting of NATO members and partner states in Madrid, Stoltenberg accused Russia of “using force in the eastern Donbass since 2014,” despite the fact that Kiev’s forces have shelled cities in the region ever since the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics declared independence from Ukraine that year.

Nevertheless, Stoltenberg said that the US-led military bloc decided in 2014 to start beefing up its forces in Eastern Europe.

“The reality is also that we have been preparing for this since 2014,” he stated. “That is the reason that we have increased our presence in the eastern part of the alliance, why NATO allies have started to invest more in defense, and why we have increased [our] readiness.”

According to NATO figures, the alliance’s European members and Canada have increased their military expenditure by between 1.2% and 5.9% every year since 2014. However, only 10 out of 30 NATO states currently meet the bloc’s target of spending 2% of GDP on defense.

The increase in expenditure has been most noticeable in Eastern Europe and the Baltics, with Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania all meeting the target for the first time in 2022.

Earlier on Wednesday, NATO members agreed to adopt a new Strategic Concept. This policy blueprint sets out the alliance’s stance toward partners, non-members, and adversaries, with the 2022 iteration naming Russia as the “most significant and direct threat” to the bloc.

On the other hand, Moscow has labeled NATO’s expansion into former Soviet states since the end of the Cold War – which Western leaders explicitly promised in the early 1990s would not happen – as a threat against its own security. NATO’s official position on Ukraine, set out in the 2008 Bucharest Declaration, is that it and Georgia “will become members of NATO” at an unspecified future date. Russia has cited Ukraine’s pursuit of NATO membership as a key factor behind the current conflict.

Despite the alliance’s post-Cold War march into the former Eastern Bloc, Stoltenberg claimed on Wednesday that “NATO has strived for a better relationship with Russia for decades.”

Empire To Expand NATO In Response To War Caused By NATO Expansion

Turkey’s President Erdoğan has officially withdrawn Ankara’s objection to the addition of Finland and Sweden to NATO membership, with the three countries signing a trilateral memorandum at a NATO summit in Madrid.

The removal of Erdoğan’s objection was reportedly obtained via significant natsec concessions from the other two nations largely geared toward facilitating Turkey’s ongoing conflict with regional Kurdish factions, and it removes the final obstacle to Finland and Sweden beginning the process of becoming NATO members. Finland’s addition will more than double the size of NATO’s direct border with Russia, a major national security concern for Moscow.

“Sweden and Finland moved rapidly to apply to NATO in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, reversing decades of security policy and opening the door to the alliance’s ninth expansion since 1949,” Axios reports.

So the western empire will be expanding NATO again in response to a war that was predominantly caused by NATO expansion. Brilliant.

Biden Says US Will Beef Up Military Presence in Europe as NATO Summit Begins in Madrid

NATO is set to agree on an expansion of its forces in Eastern Europe

At the same NATO summit, President Biden announced plans to ramp up US military presence in Europe in response to the Ukraine war.

“Speaking with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Biden said the US will increase the number of US Navy Destroyers stationed at a naval base in Rota, Spain, from four to six,” Antiwar’s Dave DeCamp reports. “The president said that this was the first of multiple announcements the US and NATO will make at the summit on increasing their forces in Europe, steps being taken in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

This news comes out as a new CNN report tells us that the Biden administration does not believe Ukraine has any chance of winning this war, yet still won’t encourage any kind of negotiated settlement to end the bloodshed.

From CNN:

White House officials are losing confidence that Ukraine will ever be able to take back all of the land it has lost to Russia over the past four months of war, US officials told CNN, even with the heavier and more sophisticated weaponry the US and its allies plan to send.

Advisers to President Joe Biden have begun debating internally how and whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should shift his definition of a Ukrainian “victory” — adjusting for the possibility that his country has shrunk irreversibly. US officials emphasized to CNN that this more pessimistic assessment does not mean the US plans to pressure Ukraine into making any formal territorial concessions to Russia in order to end the war.

Hacked Emails Link Turkish Minister to Illicit Oi

In late September, a Turkish hacker group, RedHack, released the emails of Berat Albayrak, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and the soninlaw of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Hackers have claimed that they downloaded around 20 gigabytes of data from Albayrak’s email accounts. As the group started to release the emails through social media, controversial issues have been brought to the surface once again. The Turkish government was quick to react, immediately issuing a court order prohibiting the release of the hacked emails and their publication in the media. The issuance of the court order, however, lends credence to the authenticity of the leaked emails. One of the most contentious issues uncovered with the leaked email communications and documents was the transfer of oil controlled by the so called Islamic State and the Erdoğan family’s involvement via a company named Powertrans.

Supreme Court takes up new bombshell elections case

The United States Supreme Court announced on Thursday that it will consider a case that could dramatically change how federal elections are conducted by reviewing the “independent state legislature” theory, which would give state legislatures the authority to set rules for federal elections even if those rules violated state constitutions or helped facilitate partisan gerrymandering.

Just in: In an election case out of North Carolina, SCOTUS agrees to review the "independent state legislature" theory next term. Under that theory, state legislatures have broad power to set rules for federal elections, even if state courts say those rules are unconstitutional.

— SCOTUSblog (@SCOTUSblog) June 30, 2022

The case in question is Moore v. Harper, in which the North Carolina GOP argued that the state legislature could enact voting laws and write district maps free from the courts scrutiny.

The theory comes from the “Elections Clause” in Article 1, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, which states, “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”

In their petition to the Supreme Court, North Carolina’s Republican lawmakers asserted that state courts could not question the legislature.

“By its plain text, the Elections Clause creates the power to regulate the times, places, and manner of federal elections and then vests that power in ‘the Legislature” of each State,’ ” they wrote. “It does not leave the States free to limit the legislature’s constitutionally vested power, or place it elsewhere in the State’s governmental machinery, as a matter of state law.”

The North Carolina Department of Justice argued that the Supreme Court should not examine the issue.

“Two decades ago, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a law expressly codifying the state courts’ authority to review legislative redistricting efforts,” the state’s brief stated. “At the same time, the legislature specifically authorized the state courts to ‘impose an interim districting plan’ in situations like the one giving rise to this appeal. The North Carolina state courts thus have not ‘taken it upon themselves to set’ federal elections rules — the state legislature itself designed a statutory redistricting regime that expressly contemplates the courts’ involvement.”

Earlier this year, Justice Samuel Alito predicted that the state legislature in North Carolina “would succeed” in its argument, according to The Washington Post.

Sen. Jim Risch meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on surprise weekend trip to Kyiv

As Ukraine enters its fifth month of war following Russia’s invasion in February, an Idaho senator made an unannounced visit to meet with the embattled country’s president in Kyiv over the weekend.

Sen. Jim Risch, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the capital Sunday, the same day a Russian missile struck the city — killing at least one person and wounding several others, according to Ukrainian officials — after weeks of relative calm as fighting has been concentrated in the country’s east.

“It was an honor to meet with President Zelenskyy this weekend to discuss the ongoing Russian assault against Ukraine,” Risch said in a statement. “I’ve been in many war zones, but I’ve never been to one where I’ve seen people rebuilding as the war continues. The Ukrainian people are incredibly resilient, endlessly adaptable, and courageously willing to fight. We cannot let them down.”

Risch voted along with 38 other GOP senators in May to send $40 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. His fellow Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo was one of 11 Republicans who opposed the bill, citing its cost and a lack of budget offsets to avoid increasing the federal deficit. In his statement, Risch said he believes Ukraine can win the war if the United States supplies it with “what it needs, before it needs it.”

In a video Zelenskyy’s office posted on Instagram, Risch thanks the Ukrainian president for welcoming him and says, “I want to hear what you have to say.”

The senator also toured the Kyiv suburbs of Irpin and Hostomel, where journalists and human rights monitors found evidence of atrocities against civilians after Russian occupying forces were pushed back by Ukrainian troops.

“I was taken aback by the atrocities I saw firsthand in Irpin and Hostomel, and we cannot stand by and watch these happen again,” Risch said. “I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure the Biden Administration uses the authorities Congress has given to provide President Zelenskyy and Ukrainian defense forces exactly what they need to end this conflict. Ukraine must win this fight.”

Risch also stopped in Rzeszow, Poland, where he met with members of the 82nd Airborne Division from Idaho. While no U.S. troops are stationed in Ukraine, the Biden administration has increased their presence in countries that are NATO allies.

Risch’s visit came as leaders from the world’s seven wealthiest democracies, known as the G-7, met in Austria to negotiate a global price cap on Russian oil to further squeeze the Kremlin. The leaders announced Sunday they had reached an agreement to stop buying Russian gold, a major source of revenue that was not targeted by earlier sanctions.

Russia ready to meet fertilizer demand of friendly states — Putin

"We are ready to fully satisfy the demand of agricultural producers from Indonesia and other friendly states for nitrogen, phosphate, potash fertilizers and raw materials for their production," the Russian leader stressed

Russia is ready to fully meet the fertilizer demand of agricultural producers from friendly countries, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday after talks with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo.

"We talked on issues of interest for the time being for the whole world, all countries. I mean supplies of foodstuffs, other agricultural goods, including mineral fertilizers, to global markets," the Russian leader said.

"We are ready to fully satisfy the demand of agricultural producers from Indonesia and other friendly states for nitrogen, phosphate, potash fertilizers and raw materials for their production," Putin said.

"We certainly intend to continue performing in good faith our contractual commitments on supplies of foodstuffs, fertilizers, along with energy resources and other critical goods," the President said. This is exactly why it is critical to restore chains of supplies disrupted by sanctions, Putin added.

Biden says upcoming Mideast trip aimed at boosting Israel’s integration in region

Amid speculation of potential diplomatic breakthrough between Jerusalem and Saudi Arabia, US president reveals Jewish state’s lobbying for him to visit Jeddah

US President Joe Biden says that one of the purposes of his upcoming trip to the Middle East is to “deepen Israel’s integration in the region.”

“I think we’re going to be able to do [that], which is good — good for peace and good for Israeli security,” he says during a press conference while visiting Spain.

“That’s why Israeli leaders have come out so strongly for my going to Saudi [Arabia],” he says, publicly revealing the lobbying by Jerusalem for the US president to visit Jeddah, amid apprehension from some in his party over the Gulf kingdom’s human rights record.

“I’m starting off on that trip in Israel… [I] believe it’s really important that I make the trip,” he says. “I’m… going to Israel to meet with Israeli leaders to affirm the unbreakable bond Israel and the United States have.”

Biden will be traveling to Saudi Arabia for a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council on July 15 after two days in Israel and the West Bank. “It’s in Saudi Arabia, but it’s not about Saudi Arabia.”

He confirms that he’ll be “seeing” Saudi Crown Muhammad bin Salman but only as part of the larger GCC+3 meeting. Biden also insists that he won’t be seeking to press Riyadh to increase its oil production in order to compensate for rising gas prices in the US: “I’ve indicated to them that I thought they should be increasing oil production, generically — not to the Saudis particularly.”

“The overall piece here is we’re also going to try to reduce the deaths in the war that’s occurring in Yemen,” he continues. “There’s a whole range of things that go well beyond anything having to do with Saudi [Arabic] in particular.”

“They have real concerns about what’s going on in Iran and other places in terms of their security as well,” Biden acknowledges.

Billions Keep Flowing to Afghanistan, State Dept. Blocks Audit to Disclose Where Money is Going

The U.S. has dropped a ghastly $146 billion on Afghanistan reconstruction in the last two decades and billions more continue to be spent, but the Biden administration is blocking federal auditors from conducting their congressionally mandated job of investigating where the money is going. For months the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has been trying to investigate the abrupt collapse of the U.S.-backed government in Afghanistan, if the State Department is complying with laws and regulations prohibiting the transfer of funds to the Taliban and ongoing humanitarian programs supporting the Afghan people. However, the State Department and its offshoot, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), refuse to cooperate as required by law.

This month the head of SIGAR, John F. Sopko, expressed outrage at the State Department’s efforts to obstruct his office’s investigation. In letters to congressional committees and Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, Sopko reveals that the State Department has blown off more than 20 requests for information from his office in the last eight months. The watchdog writes that the sudden refusal to cooperate is particularly surprising after more than a decade of cooperation. “Billions of dollars have been spent in Afghanistan and billions more continue to be spent,” Sopko writes. “Congress and American taxpayers deserve to know why the Afghan government collapsed after all that assistance, where the money went, and how taxpayer money is now being spent in Afghanistan.”

The State Department recently informed SIGAR, which was created by Congress to provide independent and objective oversight of Afghanistan reconstruction projects and activities, that it would not cooperate with future financial audits. Instead, Sopko writes, the State Department told him from now on it would choose its own auditors. The watchdog reminds the State Department that it is prohibited by law from preventing his office from carrying out its duties and that its authorizing statutes specifically states no officer from the Department of Defense, the Department of State, or the United States Agency for International Development shall prevent or prohibit the Inspector General from initiating, carrying out, or completing any audit or investigation related to amounts appropriated or otherwise made available for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. “It should go without saying, but neither SIGAR’s authorizing statute nor the Inspector General Act of 1978 contain a “choose your own auditor” provision,” Sopko writes to Blinken.

Florida Judge Blocks Governor Ron DeSantis’s 15-Week Abortion Ban

Another day, another activist judge.

A Florida judge on Thursday said he will block Governor Ron DeSantis’s 15-week ban on abortion.

Governor DeSantis (R) signed the 15-week abortion ban into law in April.

“This is a time where these babies have beating hearts. They can move, they can taste, they can see, they can feel pain, they can suck their thumbs, and they have brain waves. And so this will represent the most significant protections for life that have been enacted in this state in a generation,” DeSantis said this spring.

“If you look what’s going on in certain segments of our society, particularly amongst people who are affiliated with the far left of our political spectrum, of course, that’s overrepresented in places like Hollywood, in the media, and obviously in one of our major political parties. But they are now taking the position that babies can be aborted up to the 9th month, literally,” he continued.

The law was set to go into effect on Friday, however, Florida Circuit Judge John C. Cooper said he will soon sign the temporary injunction.

DeSantis is expected to fight the activist judge’s ruling.

CBS News reported:

A Florida judge on Thursday said he would temporarily block a 15-week abortion ban from taking effect, following a court challenge by reproductive health providers who say the state constitution guarantees a right to the procedure.

Judge John C. Cooper made the oral ruling from the bench, and said he would soon sign the temporary injunction.

The decision came days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, ending federal protections for abortions and reigniting fierce battles in state courts and legislatures over access to the procedure.

The legal challenge in Florida hinges on a 1980 amendment to the state constitution guaranteeing a broad right to privacy, which has been interpreted by the state Supreme Court to include abortion. Florida voters reaffirmed the right to privacy in 2012 by rejecting a ballot initiative that would have weakened its protections, plaintiffs said.

“Despite Florida’s history of protecting the right to abortion, the Florida legislature recently engaged in a brazen attempt to override the will of the Florida people,” the abortion providers said.

The state argued that abortion providers don’t have standing to make a claim of a personal right to privacy since they were acting as third parties on behalf of their patients. Attorneys for the state also maintained that the state’s constitutional right to privacy doesn’t include the right to abortion, arguing that the state has an interest in safeguarding health and protecting potential life.
