https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/propaganda-narrative-targeting-gen-qassem-soleimani-debunked

Propaganda narrative targeting Gen. Qassem Soleimani debunked

A video clip that was claimed to be a “leaked" proof of Iran’s relation to “Israel” depicts the former commander of the Quds Force, martyr Qasem Soleimani, during a meeting with a group of people. With no proof, the publishers used propaganda to write a storyline that these men at the table with Soleimeni are Israeli intelligence officers and the context is “a secret meeting.”

Agence France-Presse reported that the video, in fact, was previously published in several Iranian news agencies, and shows Soleimani's meeting with Iranian film director Nader Talebzadeh in 2018. Thus, the video is not “leaked” nor does it appear to be linked to elements of a secret meeting since it has been previously published by Iranian platforms.

In the video, a man with a white beard appears to be walking toward a table where a number of people are sitting, including the former commander of the Quds Force, and they greet each other. The propaganda narrative has taken to Twitter where an individual has captioned the video: "After Israel declassified Iran… Soleimani's meeting with the intelligence of the Zionist entity in a leaked video."

The video received thousands of interactions on social media, especially on Twitter, despite the French agency’s insistence that they are skeptical regarding both the location of the video and the narrative in which it has been spotlighted. AFP confirmed that the video was published on the websites of several Iranian agencies, which removes the suspicion of "leakage" altogether.

Furthermore, several elements, according to AFP, raised the suspicion that the video was not actually a "leak", as the hall in which it was filmed appears equipped for an occasion, and a number of people appear to be sitting at separate tables in a show of counter productiveness to a “secret meeting”.

In a more logical explanation, the individuals, or some of them, have been identified. For example, at the beginning of the clip, director Talebzadeh is shown greeting Iranian director Ibrahim Hatami Kia.

Who is Talebzadeh?

Nader Talebzadeh was known for his distinctive sharpness in cinema and film writing, directing many award-winning documentaries and movies. In 2007, he produced a feature-length movie, "The Messiah", which received many accolades.

He lived and documented the Iran-Iraq war, as well as documented the Balkan wars in the 90s.

In 2019, the US State Department sanctioned Talebzadeh and his wife, Zeinab Mehanna, for establishing the New Horizons Conferences, a yearly cultural event that binds non-Muslim and non-Iranian thinkers at the annual event that sheds light on US and Israeli hegemonic policies and war crimes. The director passed away on April 29 of this year, leaving behind a rich cultural and artistic heritage.

More on the deconstructed narrative

Moreover, the Iranian writer and researcher Hamid Daoud Abadi had previously written about this meeting. He explained that at the time, the two men met, as shown in the video, at "the wedding of the daughter of Ehsan Muhammad Hassani, head of Oj Media Art."

Abadi recounts how Hassani seated him at the table of martyr Soleimani, adding that the "Director Ibrahim Hatami Kia, writer Gulali Babai, head of the Office of Resistance Literature and Arts Mortada Sarhangi, and head of the artistic department Mohsen Momeni" were also seated at the same at the table where the martyr was seated.

As such, the deconstruction of the Israeli narrative seeking to create sow doubt where none exists has been completed. The video is real, the narrative is a fabrication of a fictitious mind that has lost the battle psychologically and has no doubt any military battle will come at a very high price.

On January 3rd, 2020 the commander of the Quds Force, General Qasem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, were martyred by a US missile strike near Baghdad International Airport in what was a cowardly assassination.

The updated hundred-ruble banknote, which was presented and put into circulation on Thursday, June 30, has a secret sign encrypted. The clock on the Spasskaya Tower, which is depicted on the front side of the banknote, shows the time of 20 hours 22 minutes. This value was not accidental. The designers encrypted in it the year of issue of the new hundred-ruble note – 2022, Izvestia suggested. The press service of the Central Bank confirmed that this is exactly the case.

Thus, the year of issue is twice indicated on the new one hundred rubles: on the reverse side directly and in numbers, on the front side – in encrypted form by indicating the time on the clock of the Spasskaya Tower.

The front side of the updated banknote depicts the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin, Zaryadye Park, the Ostankino and Shukhov Towers, the Moscow State University building on Sparrow Hills. On the back, as Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Belov said at the presentation, the main image was the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier, the largest monument erected in modern Russia. In the background of the new banknote, the Kulikovo Field Museum-Reserve is depicted.

In addition to the artistically dominant sights of the district, the reverse side also contains microimages (inscriptions and small graphic elements) on a stylized map of the district. In particular, Tula samovars and gingerbread are represented there.

The updated hundred-ruble note contains a QR code, by scanning which you can get to the Central Bank page with detailed information about the updated banknote.

Political regime change, Saied publishes draft of new constitution

Tunisian President Kais Saied published on Thursday the new constitution that will be the subject of the upcoming referendum.

The Tunisian Government Gazette noted that the new constitution involves a change of the country's political regime to a presidential system, which gives additional powers to the president.

It also noted that this constitution will limit the role of parliament, with the exception of its role in monitoring the president and government.

President Saied, the gazette said, will continue to rule by decrees until a new parliament is elected in December.

In addition, the new constitution prevents the judiciary from going on strike, while also guaranteeing the freedom of thought, opinion, press, congregation, and publishing.

The proposed constitution says the position of president is a right for every Tunisian that does not hold a different nationality, the president may only renew his candidacy for one additional term, and the president will be the one exercising executive power with the assistance of a government headed by a prime minister.

Journalists' syndicate: Approval, opposition and boycott of referendum must be respected

Tunisia's journalists' syndicate called for the guaranteeing of the right of all factions that believe in a democratic civil state to express their stances in the media, noting that the role of the elections committee is to guarantee plurality, fairness, and the right of all opinions to be broadcasted in media, rather than be excluded.

The syndicate further stressed that positions in favor of or against, or even calling for the boycott of the referendum, are stances that must be respected, and their right to be expressed must also be respected.

It also reiterated its stance against the systematic policy of exclusion being adopted by the Tunisian television organization.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/us-presbyterian-church-declares-israel-an-apartheid-regime

US Presbyterian Church declares "Israel" an apartheid regime

The US Presbyterian Church voted to declare "Israel" an apartheid regime and to establish a Remembrance Day for the Nakba of 1948, which the resolution described as the "expulsion by terrorism and force of 750,000 Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim."

"Israel’s laws, policies and practices regarding the Palestinian people fulfill the international legal definition of apartheid," read the resolution.

The church also passed two other resolutions highly critical of "Israel" at the American religious body's 225th General Assembly.

The church's International Engagement committee voted, with a majority, in recognition of "Israel’s laws, policies and practices regarding the Palestinian people fulfill the international legal definition of apartheid," asserting that Palestinians, through racial domination and inhumane acts, were systemically oppressed by Israelis.

According to the resolution, the church acknowledges that Palestinian land and water were stolen by "Jewish-only settlements," and that Palestinians were denied freedom of residence and movement, residing in "separate reserves and ghettos."

May 15, as per the document, has been designated as the 'Palestinian Nakba Remembrance Day,' and it has become an official part of the Presbyterian Planning Calendar, two months after Democrat congresswoman Rashida Tlaib presented a draft recognizing the Nakba.

The church went deeper into matters, addressing the Arabs who live in the 1948 lands, declaring that non-Jewish Arabs living in Palestinians are treated with "inferior status" and that Palestinians are unable to participate in the "political, social, economic and cultural life of their country."

A comparison was drawn between what is happening in occupied Palestine and what was before in apartheid South Africa: "This overture is pursued with the hope it will lead to a peaceful reconciliation for the people of Israel and Palestine similar to that which occurred in South Africa when apartheid was internationally acknowledged."

The role of Christianity in fighting colonialism was also brought up - a refreshing antidote to the way the religion was exploited to justify the existence of "Israel."

"Christians spoke out in the 1950s against segregation in the United States and later against apartheid in South Africa. They must again raise their voices and condemn Israel’s discrimination against Palestinians and give a name to the crime against humanity that this discrimination represents, the crime of apartheid," it said.

Countering the tried-and-tested tactic that Zionists use to silence their critics, "anti-semitism", according to the resolution, should not be prescribed to those who criticize "Israel", as it is not a condemnation of Judaism.

Many Christians are reluctant to criticize "Israel" because of the Holocaust and being slammed as anti-semitic.

"After World War II when the horror of the Nazi Holocaust was revealed, Jews around the world said 'never again,'" read the resolution. "Christians too vowed that never again would they be silent if a government passed laws establishing and maintaining the domination by one ethnic group over another ethnic group through systematic separation, oppression and denial of basic human rights. Silence in the face of evil was wrong then, and it is wrong now."

Antisemitism, according to the resolution, "encompasses people from other groups, in addition to our Jewish siblings," and it should be replaced with "Anti-jewish" instead.

In January, Herbert Nelson II, the States Clerk Reverand and doctor, described Israelis' treatment of Palestinians as "enslavement."

In addition, the resolution called on "Israel" to end the collective punishment against Palestinians, and to end the military action and the siege on Gaza.

The church also called for freedom of worship in Al-Quds, or occupied Jerusalem, criticizing the deliberate Judaization of the holy city.

"The face of Jerusalem has been changing rapidly in the direction of a heightened Zionist-Jewish identity, with intensified restrictions on the movement, residency and human rights of Muslim and Christian Palestinians," read the statement. "The State of Israel’s policies steadily increase inter-religious tension with their disregard for the historic claims and freedom of worship of Muslims and Christians."

The resolution rejected Trump's decision in 2020 to relocate the US embassy from "Tel Aviv" to Al-Quds, rejecting "the doctrines of Christian Zionism that tend toward idolatry and heresy."

Lavrov: 'Iron Curtain' is being constructed by Westerners themselves

In response to the turmoil in Ukraine, Western countries are attempting to isolate Russia and Belarus by erecting a new "Iron Curtain" across Europe. In a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart on Tuesday in Minsk, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that decades-long relations between Moscow and the EU were effectively broken overnight by the EU.

Belarus' FM Vladimir Makei remarked, "The Iron Curtain is now being constructed by Westerners themselves." He made it clear that he was talking about both the construction of a physical barrier along the border between Poland and Belarus and the dissolution of political and economic connections.

Makei asserted that isolationism was biased because Belarus continues to encourage Western interaction and seeks diplomatic solutions to problems.

“It is practically already up,” Lavrov agreed, adding that Western countries “are only doing it carefully, so as not to pinch anything off, but the process is underway.”

“The summits that took place twice a year, and the meetings of the Russian government and the European Commission, and the common spaces along which the four ‘road maps’ were built, twenty sectoral dialogues, a visa-free dialogue … All this was brought down overnight,” Lavrov said, referring to the 2014 events, during which Brussels denounced what it called Russia's "annexation" of Crimea, concluding that the “Relations have been nonexistent since then.”

Last but not least, the Russian FM said that he “can only say that from now on, we will not trust neither the Americans nor the EU. We will do everything necessary so we don’t have to depend on them in critical sectors.”

Winston Churchill, who commanded the UK through World War Two, is credited with coining the term "Iron Curtain." In March 1946, Churchill accepted US President Harry Truman's invitation to speak at a college in Fulton, Missouri, one year after the Nazi surrender. In his speech, he predicted the coming Cold War by claiming that "an iron curtain has descended across the continent," alluding to the division in Eastern Europe that arose during that time period.

According to Western historiography, the original "Iron Curtain" was demolished in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was reunited, and the USSR collapsed two years later. At this time the term has been revived following the Kaliningrad blockade and the erection of the wall across the Polish-Belarusian border as well as all the isolationism caused by socio-economic and political decisions and sanctions.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/finland:-we-will-not-change-our-legislation-to-please-turkey

Finland: We will not change our legislation to please Turkey

Finland's Foreign Minister said on Friday that his country will not approve of making changes to its legislation and will not deliver certain individuals requested by Turkey unless there are very good reasons to do so.

In a press conference held in Helsinki following talks with his Polish counterpart, Haavisto said that "If the condition for Turkey's ratification of Finland's NATO membership is a change in our legislation, Finland is unlikely to make such concessions."

According to the Finnish FM, the Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey, Sweden, and Finland does not say anything about changes in legislation or anything of a sort, nor did Finland make such commitments.

He further added that everything that was agreed upon was put to paper. Different points of view may be expressed, but nothing was agreed upon that was not written in the MoU.

Haavisto said Helsinki may concede to Turkey's demands of delivering persons it itself considers terrorists, and only if there is evidence to substantiate these claims.

The Finnish Foreign Minister further added that he understands that Kurds living in Finland and Sweden are concerned, but when the matter concerns criminals, then the crime of terrorism would have to be one that was proven in Finland as well. In addition, Finland has also refused to hand over people that may be tortured or executed.

Turkey announced on Wednesday that it would seek the extradition of 33 alleged Kurdish militants and "coup plot" suspects from Sweden and Finland as part of an agreement to secure Ankara's support for the Nordic countries' NATO membership bids.

Following crunch talks ahead of Wednesday's NATO summit in Madrid, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dropped weeks of opposition to Sweden and Finland joining NATO.

Erdogan declared victory after securing a 10-point agreement in which the two countries agreed to join Turkey's "fight against banned Kurdish militants and to quickly extradite suspects."

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/assange-appeals-uk-decision-to-extradite-him-to-us

Assange appeals UK decision to extradite him to US

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has appealed the decision made by the UK to extradite him to the US, where he is facing charges of espionage, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Critics say that the whistleblower's extradition to the US is on par with a death sentence, as plots by the US have come to light wherein it became clear that Washington was planning to assassinate Assange.

Amnesty International warned that the extradition of Julian Assange to the US would put him at great risk and sends a chilling message to journalists the world over.

Agnes Callamard, the Amnesty International Secretary General said earlier in June: “If the extradition proceeds, Amnesty International is extremely concerned that Assange faces a high risk of prolonged solitary confinement, which would violate the prohibition on torture or other ill-treatment. Diplomatic assurances provided by the US that Assange will not be kept in solitary confinement cannot be taken on face value given the previous history”.

According to the lawyer, Assange filed two appeals to the UK high court on Thursday in an effort to prevent his extradition.

This new legal dispute may last for months and may delay his extradition to the US.

Plans to assassinate Assange

In 2017, former US State Secretary Mike Pompeo and former CIA Director Gina Haspel reportedly explored various ways to carry out a "rendition" to capture Assange from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and then transport him to a third country, which would eventually hand him over to the US.

The CIA's reported plans were pushed forward after the American intelligence community was informed of a Russian alleged plan to bust Assange out of the UK.

In response, the US spy agency started planning ways to intercept the whistleblower, which included crashing a car into a Russian diplomatic vehicle carrying the man, shooting out the tires of a Russian plane with the journalist on board, or outright starting a gunfight on London's streets with Kremlin operatives, the Yahoo investigator team claimed.

The US authorities were so desperate for the Russians not to put their hands on Assange that they were willing to assassinate him.

The CIA's plans didn't go through because of several reasons, including American officials who strongly objected to the assassination plan, precisely officials in the National Security Council.
