GlaxoSmithKline prepares to get back to basics with historic break-up
Investors in the pharma group are expected to formally end its links to consumer healthcare
At the Sofitel hotel at Heathrow Terminal 5 on Wednesday GSK shareholders are to seal the latest chapter in the 307-year-old history of one of Britain’s largest and most successful companies.
Investors are expected to approve “landmark” plans to break-up the FTSE 100 drugs group through a demerger on July 18 of Haleon, the world’s largest consumer healthcare business, which traces its roots to the establishment of the Plough Court Pharmacy in London in 1715, later becoming Allen & Hanburys.
