It was a couple of monks from Ireland that converted the Germans around a 1000 AD. They started the oldest brewery in the world and had to pay taxes to the King for growing hops. They cut down an old tree believed to be the one Odin hung upon and proceeded to teach Christianity. Long before Martin Luther, who's critique of Judaism came from some Germans that had converted to Judaism, whilst living in Amsterdam. They were actively proselytizing in Germany at the time Martin Luther encountered them and read their leaflets that they were in the process of distributing. These leaflets expounded the doctrines of Judaism being diametrically opposed to Christianity.
