My answer from experience is your spirit/mental connection with all other life and humans giving you information you don't get from the other senses. The more sensitive you are the better you are able to sense and interpret the information. Larger events that many witness or experience the larger the power and further forward (or back in time from the event) you can sense that event.

My awakening experience was the 1986 Shuttle explosion. Felt it hours in advanced and knew exactly what was going to happen within an hour. Imagine millions of kids watching the launch of a teacher seeing the explosion at the same time. Huge energy release.
