Active Shooter Reported At 4th Of July Celebration In Philadelphia – Two Officers Shot!

Reports of an active shooter are coming out of Philadelphia Monday night during the city’s annual 4th of July fireworks display.

The scene on Ben Franklin Parkway displayed chaos as bystanders were heard screaming and running from the scene.

One user on Twitter reported that two officers had been shot on the scene.

He also said, “Police believe the shooter is hiding in a wooded area near the Art Museum. The crowd watching the fireworks has mostly cleared out. Some people sheltering in place.”

The local NBC affiliate also began reporting on the shooting.

“The gunfire broke out near the Philadelphia Museum of Art on the final day of Wawa Welcome America as throngs of people watched a fireworks show following a concert headlined by Jason Derulo on the parkway, police said.”

Fox News reported, “Authorities say two police officers were shot during 4th of July fireworks in Philadelphia. The officers sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds and are in stable condition.”

Bystander Ben Brissi posted the following on Twitter, “At first we thought it was a false alert, then there was another wave of people running and cops drew their guns telling us to get out #Philly #activeshooter all while the fireworks show is going on and providing cover for the shooter. Still nothing confirmed.”

The possible shooting in Philadelphia is the second shooting incident of the day at a 4th of July celebration, with a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, earlier today leaving six dead and dozens wounded.

Hundreds of Australian businesses ‘on the verge of collapse’ amid soaring energy prices

Sky News host Chris Kenny says hundreds of businesses across Australia are on the verge of collapse amid mounting pressure from soaring energy prices.

“Businesses and unions say companies are faced with the grim choice of raising their own prices or absorbing the higher cost of gas and electricity, which they simply can’t afford to do, of course,” he said.

“Industry leaders have warned they could be facing economic carnage and forced closures within six to twelve months unless immediate action is taken.”

Mr Kenny discussed the issue with Australian Industry Group Chief Executive Innes Willox.

Mitt Romney: A Donald Trump Comeback Would Render America ‘Incurable’

A political comeback by Donald Trump would render America’s “denial, deceit, and distrust” “incurable,” Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) argued on July 4.

In an Atlantic op-ed entitled, “America Is in Denial,” the failed 2012 Republican presidential candidate scolded Americans for “blithely dismissing threats that could prove cataclysmic.” Chief among those threats is Trump, who “would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable,” according to Romney.

“I have witnessed time and again—in myself and in others—a powerful impulse to believe what we hope to be the case,” Romney continued. “A classic example of denial comes from Donald Trump: ‘I won in a landslide.’ Perhaps this is a branch of the same delusion that leads people to feed money into slot machines: Because I really want to win, I believe that I will win.”

In contrast, Romney praised President Joe Biden as “a genuinely good man” despite reports that the president took part in the Biden family’s corrupt business schemes at least 13 times.

“President Joe Biden is a genuinely good man, but he has yet been unable to break through our national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust. A return of Donald Trump would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable,” Romney wrote.

“I hope for a president who can rise above the din to unite us behind the truth,” Romney added.” Several contenders with experience and smarts stand in the wings; we added watch to see if they also possess the requisite character and ability to bring the nation together in confronting our common reality.”

It is unclear who Romney is referencing as “several contenders with experience and smarts” who may want to run in 2024. Polling shows Trump leading in a hypothetical GOP primary — holding a 40-point advantage over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) — if he decides to run, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris survey. Polling in third place is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) with only eight percent.

On the Democrat side, Biden is more narrowly leading in the polls over Vice President Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) may also have plans to run in 2024, but polling has not yet captured voters’ interest in him.
