Dr. David Baum told NBC Chicago that he was about 100 yards away from where people were shot and killed during the Fourth of July parade in the Chicago suburb.

Baum described hearing the "pow, pow" of a "Howitzer-type" weapon and that people began screaming and scattering moments after.

"You saw blood everywhere. You saw bodies down. You saw people screaming, you saw massive amounts of blood in the people who were gone," Baum told NBC. "There were a lot of bodies. Who was expecting to need 15 ambulances on the scene of our Highland Park parade?"

While his family ran off, Baum said he stayed at the scene with several others โ€” including a nurse, a surgeon, and an emergency room doctor โ€” to help the injured.

"I didn't know what I could do, but I wasn't going to leave," Baum said. "All we could do

Where's the video, where's the images?

Lol, Jewish mayor was Cub Scout leader for Jewish boys, and shooter was on of them

โ€œI know him as somebody who was a Cub Scout when I was the Cub Scout leader," she said. "Itโ€™s one of those things where you step back and you say, โ€˜What happened? How did somebody become this angry? This hateful?' To then take it out on innocent people who literally were having a family day out.โ€

When asked what he was like back then, she replied, โ€œHe was just a little boy.โ€

Who is/was your most important mentor and why?

U.S. Senator Richard J. Durbin is my most important mentor. Senator Durbinโ€™s values and commitment to ethics in public service parallel my own. Throughout my career, he has provided candid advice, guidance, and important perspectives on professional and political decisions. I appreciate his equanimity and the impactful leadership he provides by example.

What would you consider your greatest career accomplishment?

In 2013, in the wake of Sandy Hook, I successfully led my City Council in an effort to pass an ordinancebanning assault weapons and large capacity magazinesduring a brief 10-day window of opportunity provided by the Illinois General Assembly. I worked in partnership with our corporation counsel to draft a strategy that mitigated litigation exposure and encouraged my colleagues in the face of intense challenges to do the right thing for our community. I was able to obtain pro bono legal counsel, who withstood a challenge by the NRA that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and succeeded in defending what is now a model ordinance.

President Richard M. Nixon lashed out repeatedly at "the Jews" he saw at the root of his problems.

"The Jews are all over the government," Nixon complained to his chief of staff, H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, in an Oval Office meeting recorded on one of a set of White House tapes released yesterday at the National Archives. Nixon said the Jews needed to be brought under control by putting someone "in charge who is not Jewish" in key agencies.

Washington "is full of Jews," the president asserted. "Most Jews are disloyal." He made exceptions for some of his top aides, such as national security adviser Henry Kissinger, his White House counsel, Leonard Garment, and one of his speechwriters, William Safire, and then added:

"But, Bob, generally speaking, you can't trust the bastards. They turn on you. Am I wrong or right?"

Haldeman agreed wholeheartedly. "Their whole orientation is against you. In this administration, anyway. And they are smart. They have the ability to do what they want to doโ€“which is to hurt us."
