Euro hits its lowest since 2022

As shown by trading data, the Euro fell below $1.03 for the first time since December 2002. The euro traded at $1.0296 which is down from $1.0421 at a time when the dollar index was 1.04% to 106.23 points.

Fears over the European energy crisis are putting pressure on the euro. Strike-related production suspensions at many fields by Norway's Equinor increased gas prices. Nord Stream will be suspended for scheduled maintenance from July 11 to July 21. In light of this, European gas futures are rising by 6% to almost $1,800 per thousand cubic meters.

To a significant measure, the euro crisis is a result of dollar strength, which has been exacerbated as the Federal Reserve continues to raise interest rates faster than its peers. A new round of global risk aversion, which has knocked the wind out of equities and credit markets, is simply adding fuel to the run into haven currencies.

The European economy's prognosis is likewise deteriorating. An ongoing stalemate with Moscow over natural gas supplies to the continent has heightened the likelihood of a significant slowdown. The International Monetary Fund has reduced the currency bloc's growth prediction for 2022 to 2.8 percent.

Previously with the Euro and Dollar rates

On June 30th, the US government released data that showed price increases that had held steady in the past 12 months ended in May, while the rise in consumer spending slowed sharply.

This, according to some, may comfort consumers as a sign that the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate plans are beginning to have an effect in limiting the fastest uptick in inflation seen in more than four decades.

Compared to May 2021, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index rose 6.3%, the same pace as in the prior month, despite it rising 0.6% compared to April, according to the Commerce Department.

This monthly increase, which was faster than in the preceding month, was still below economist projections. As for US multinationals, the quick rise in the value of the US dollar since the beginning of the year is a double-edged sword, forcing them to determine whether to hedge or move their operations abroad to prevent damage.

Morocco sues Spain reporter over Pegasus spying claims

Morocco has filed a lawsuit against a Spanish journalist who claimed Rabat put Israeli Pegasus spyware on his phone as per judicial sources.

A spokesperson for the regional court authority said that the complaint against Ignacio Cembrero, a specialist on Spain-Morocco ties who works for the news website El Confidencial, was approved by a court in Madrid.

It is worth noting that Morocco was accused of deploying Israeli-made malware, which infiltrates mobile phones to extract data or to turn on a camera or microphone to spy on their owners, in an investigation conducted by 17 media outlets last year. Rabat has refuted the charges.

In accordance with a copy of the complaint obtained by AFP, Morocco is requesting that Cembrero retract his claims and bear the expense of Morocco's legal representation.

"The Kingdom of Morocco is not involved in spying on Ignacio Cembrero nor on any other citizen" and "does not have the Pegasus programme," the lawyer representing Rabat said.

Additionally, Cembrero had announced the case on his Twitter page.

He tweeted, on Monday, that "Morocco is taking me to court for accusing it of spying with Pegasus."

He claimed that this was "the fourth time" that Morocco had sued him in Spain, but it was the first time that he had been asked to "retract" statements that Rabat was behind the use of Pegasus software for espionage.

"It's a political trial to curtail journalists' freedom of expression," he tweeted.

A look back

Almost a year now, the world continues to react to the Pegasus spyware scandal as press reports continue to reveal how it aimed to target powerful and prominent figures, including politicians, journalists, and activists.

Why should we know about the Pegasus Scandal?

Pegasus is Israeli spyware that targeted prominent and influential figures all around the globe, including politicians and journalists.

The Israeli NSO Group-developed spyware leaks stated that there are more than 50,000 records of phone numbers that NSO clients selected for surveillance since 2016.

Through the leaked data and the investigations carried out by Forbidden Stories and its media partners, the NGO and its partners were able to identify potential NSO clients in 11 countries: Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Morocco, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Togo, and the United Arab Emirates.

This scandal prompted international and human rights organizations, news agencies, the European Union, and governments from all over the world to condemn the findings of the investigations.

Moscow ends all operation of the Jewish Agency in Russia

The Jewish Agency has been instructed by the Russian government to stop all operations inside the nation, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

The directive was stated in a letter the Russian government sent earlier this week. Jewish Agency representatives acknowledged that the letter had been received, but they declined to comment on the organization's planned response, which is presently being discussed in its headquarters in occupied Al-Quds in conjunction with the Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office.

In a response to a question by the Jerusalem Post, the agency claimed that "As part of the work of the Jewish Agency's delegation in Russia, we are occasionally required to make certain adjustments, as required by authorities," adding that "The contacts with the authorities take place continuously, with the aim of continuing our activities in accordance with the rules set by the competent bodies. Even nowadays, such a dialogue takes place."

The order comes amid growing tension between "Israel" and Russia over "Tel Aviv's" support for Kiev and its leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the continuing conflict in Ukraine. Russia's foreign ministry requested an immediate end to the assaults on Syria on Monday, describing the Israeli attacks as intolerable.

A startling ruling requiring the Jewish Agency to cease operations in Russia might seriously impede Russian Jews' ability to go to "Israel" and make "aliyah" (the immigration of foreign Jews to "Israel"). Many of them have completed the necessary paperwork for immigration and have been waiting for flights to occupied Palestine, but due to the sanctions on Russia, most foreign airlines have stopped flying there, as described by Israeli officials.

According to one source, "a number of Jews have said that the Russian authorities are trying to arrest them and that they fear for their lives."

Promoting and facilitating "aliyah" from Jewish communities across the world is one of the primary objectives of the Jewish Agency. If it cannot operate there, it will be the first time in the last 30 years that "aliyah" attempts have been prohibited in Russia.

The Israeli Integration Minister said briefly that "aliyah" is a Jewish right and that it must be preserved. The minister said that they are worried about the consequences of the Russian decision and that they hope to work a solution out with Moscow.

>> Joke of the day: a number of Jews have said that the Russian authorities are trying to arrest them and that they fear for their lives - Kek!

That's what I thought at first too, but then the king of Morocco declared he got covid. And right now, big things taking place is most African countries, including clean ups. This is not just a simple exercise in Morocco when Israel is participating in it. I think there is more than the obvious.

One Palestinian beaten to death, another shot dead by IOF

Within the span of one day, Israeli regime forces assassinated two Palestinians, a 32-year-old worker and a teenager, across the occupied territories.

According to the official Palestinian WAFA news agency, the IOF attacked Ahmad Harb Ayyad near the Israeli apartheid separation wall in the city of Tulkarm in the Northwestern part of the occupied West Bank on Tuesday.

The soldiers then beat him to death as he attempted to cross the wall into the occupied territories trying to get to his workplace.

According to Ayyad's family, Israeli soldiers handed over his body to them in the Gaza Strip, where he was buried in a local cemetery.

The Palestinian Authority's Foreign Ministry denounced Ayyad's execution and held the Israeli occupation "fully and directly" responsible for the crime, WAFA reported.

The Ministry also โ€œcalled on the United Nations and the international community to provide protection to the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, who are being killed every day."

Also on Tuesday, Al-Alam television network reported that Israeli occupation soldiers opened fire on a Palestinian adolescent in the town of Majd Al-Krum, killing him instantly.

According to local accounts, the boy was slain following a confrontation with Israeli soldiers, who also injured another Palestinian.

According to the reports, the injured Palestinian was arrested by the IOF.

So far this year, Israeli forces have killed over 65 Palestinians, including renowned Al-Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot in the head by the Israeli authorities in the city of Jenin on May 11.

Explosions rock US occupation base in countryside of Deir Ezzor

Several explosions occurred in the Al-Omar oil field, east of Deir Ezzor, where the US military base is located, according to Syrian media reports.

Video clips documenting the flames caused by the explosions in the oil field circulated on social media, while the causes of the explosions are still unknown until now.

Sources from Sputnik reported that the Al-Omar oil field base, which is used by the US occupation forces as a military base in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, was targetted with missile strikes near midnight from an unknown source, which resulted in a fire inside the field.

Sources confirmed to the agency that flames and smoke rose from the field, which was followed by the US army launching flare shells over the area, with the sounds of heavy machine guns of US military and reconnaissance aircraft heard over the villages and towns surrounding the field.

The sources said that the pro-US militias of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) began deploying reinforcements in the towns surrounding the field, as soon as the explosions rocked the area, and their reverberations reverberated far away.

Earlier, missile attacks targeted the US base in the Al-Omar field. Al-Omar oil field is the largest oil field in Syria in area and production and is located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/russian-defense:-more-than-28-thousand-tons-of-western-arms

Russian Defense: More than 28 thousand tons of Western arms to Ukraine

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Tuesday that the West continues to supply Kiev with weapons on a large scale, hoping to prolong the conflict in Ukraine, noting that the volume of military shipments supplied to Ukraine exceeded 28 thousand tons.

During a conference call, Shoigu said that the collective West, "hoping to prolong the conflict in Ukraine", continues to supply weapons to Kiev on a large scale, noting that more than 28 thousand tons of military shipments have already been delivered to the country.

The Russian Defense Minister stressed that part of the weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine goes to the Middle East and the black market.

$800 million aid package

Last Thursday, US President Joe Biden announced at a press conference after the NATO summit in Madrid that the United States will soon announce new military aid to Ukraine worth more than 800 million dollars.

According to Biden, the military aid promised to Ukraine by 50 countries includes hundreds of tanks, artillery systems, and hundreds of thousands of shells, and his allies around the world are making a tangible contribution [to Ukraine's aid].

The US president believes that approximately 140,000 anti-tank systems, 600 tanks, 500 artillery systems, and 600,000 shells will be delivered.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg reiterated, during a press conference after the conclusion of the NATO summit, his assertion to continue supporting Ukraine, calling on Moscow to withdraw its forces from Kiev and end the war.

On the other hand, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev stressed today that the Russian special military operation in Ukraine will achieve its goals despite the United States and other Western countries providing military aid to Kiev.

Russia has previously sent a note to NATO countries against the background of supplying arms to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also stated that NATO countries were "playing with fire" by providing arms to Ukraine.

The spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, indicated that Ukraine's pumping of weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.

>> Let me fix that: The Russian Defense Minister stressed that part of the weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine goes to the Israel and the Kabballah.

Japan imposed export ban on 90 Organizations From Russia, Belarus

Japan has imposed an export ban on 90 organizations from Russia and Belarus, according to a bulletin issued by the Japanese foreign, finance, and economy ministries.

"According to a [Japanese] Foreign Ministry notification, a restriction on export is introduced for 65 organizations from the Russian Federation and for 25 organizations from Belarus," according to the document published by the Japanese Finance Ministry.

Japan is also prohibiting the provision of services to Russia, such as auditing, management consulting, and trust services. The ban will go into effect on September 5.

According to the document, Tokyo is sanctioning 57 Russian individuals and six organizations, including Kherson Region military-civilian administration head Vladimir Saldo and his deputy Kirill Stremousov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, and relatives of Severstal majority shareholder Alexey Mordashov.

The sanctions call for the freezing of assets in Japan, as well as the prohibition of financial transactions with these individuals and organizations.

In June, during the latest addition to the wave of sanctions against Russia following the war in Ukraine, Japan introduced sanctions targeting two Russian banks and one Belarusian bank with the intention of expanding the ban on local goods export.

The goods subject to the export ban are ones "contributing to the buildup of industrial infrastructure" according to Tokyo, without specifying which products yet.

Furthermore, the new sanctions will include the freezing of assets of three banks: The Russian Agricultural Bank, the Credit Bank of Moscow, and the Belarusian Bank for Development and Reconstruction. Making payments and transactions with the aforementioned banks could now only take place with the authorization of Japanese authorities.

Earlier, losses were incurred by seven leading Japanese trade and investment organizations, including Mitsui, Mitsubishi, Itochu, Sumimoto, and Marubeni, as a result of direct and indirect consequences of anti-Russian sanctions, totaled more than $2 billion by March 31 according to the Japanese daily Sankei.

The losses stem from a drop in the value of these firms' Russian assets, such as the Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 oil and gas projects, as well as losses from leasing passenger planes to Russia.

Meanwhile, Japanese business, backed by the government, is said to have no plans to depart Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2. The importance of importing oil and gas via these projects is based on long-term contracts and at moderate rates, according to the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Koichi Hagiuda, who spoke at a news conference in Tokyo on May 10.
