here the county was going to recycle things

they soon found out that scrap metal, cardboard and aluminum cans were all that they could sell

people found out that if you saved cans you could sell them yourself

if you had iron or an old car the county charged a dump fee and then sold it

so people took that to the ironyard themselves

when the county got a truckload of glass gathered, they hauled it to the pit- no value

a couple years ago the nearby company that bought the cardboard quit buying it- now into the pit

at the same time covid meant the prisoners who did the sorting were not allowed out

the city got a deal to dump "recyclables" free instead of "trash price"

so now the old people (who don't know whats up) put out their recyclables every week

the city hauls them to the landfill and the county buries them

a waste of everyone's time and money and water

because the old people rinse out the cans before they are buried

they were not about to require people to sort recyclables

they had to much sent voluntarily

it was a feel good operation

most of the stuff they collected has no value

when the nearby company quit buying cardboard and paper, shipping anywhere else was 3 times the value

companies that recycle glass and plastic would not come get it for free

they have more than they can use much closer
