The Glass, or Looking Glass (or Operation Looking Glass) is the code name for an airborne command center operated by the United States. It provides command and control of U.S. nuclear forces in the event that ground-based command centers are destroyed or otherwise rendered inoperable. In such an event, the general officer serving as the Airborne Emergency Action Officer (AEAO) on Looking Glass assumes by devolution the authority of the National Command Authorities and can command execution of nuclear attacks. The AEAO is supported by a battle staff of approximately 20 people, with another dozen responsible for the operation of the aircraft systems.

Bank Holidays is a bland substitution in the UK for days off due to national celebrations and other days that used to have religious or patriotic names. Don't know whether that's true of other European countries, but true in the UK. More destruction of culture, i assume.
