NEW: Russian businessman with links to gas giant Gazprom mysteriously found dead – report

According to media reports, a multi-millionaire Russian businessman was shot dead at his mansion, making him the latest elite with ties to energy giant Gazprom to die in recent months.

Yuri Voronov, 61, the head of a logistics company that had lucrative contracts with Gazprom in the Arctic, was discovered dead at his home in an ultra-rich St Petersburg suburb around 2 p.m. on Monday, according to the Daily Mail.

Voronov was discovered floating in the pool with a gunshot wound to the head, a Grand Power pistol nearby, and several spent cases at the pool’s bottom.

He is at least the sixth wealthy Russian businessman to die in mysterious circumstances since the beginning of the year, many of whom had ties to Gazprom and two of whom died in the same St Petersburg suburb as Voronov, according to the Daily Mail.

The Russian Investigative Committee is looking into Voronov’s death, which is currently being blamed on a “dispute with business partners.”

According to his wife, Voronov believed he was being duped out of “a lot of money” by “dishonourable” contractors and partners.

However, a number of deaths at other mansions near St. Petersburg have fueled rumours of murders staged to appear as suicides.

A lover discovered Alexander Tyulakov, 61, a senior Gazprom financial and security official, hanged at his home in the exclusive Leninsky development in February.

Investigators said he killed himself, but local reports said his body had been beaten, implying the hanging was staged.

Three weeks earlier, Leonid Shulman, 60, was found stabbed to death in his bathroom in the same housing development.

Shulman was the head of transportation at Gazprom Invest, the energy conglomerate’s investment arm.

Billionaire Alexander Subbotin, 43, a former senior executive at energy giant Lukoil, was also discovered dead in May, according to the Daily Mail.
