Caroline Kennedy will arrive in Sydney on July 22 after being sworn in as the new US ambassador to Australia
Sky News can exclusively reveal the new US ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy - the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy - will touch down in Sydney on July 22 before calling Canberra home.
The author and attorney previously served as US Ambassador to Japan between 2013 and 2017, under former President Barack Obama.
She comes from American political royalty; her father was America's 35th President from 1961 until his assassination in November 1963.
Ms Kennedy replaces Arthur Culvahouse, who left in early 2021, when former President Donald Trump was booted from office.
he new Ambassador takes up the position at a crucial time in the two allies' relationship, as they work to counter China's growing influence in the Pacific.
In February, Ms Kennedy praised efforts to re-open the US embassy in Honiara, saying it "can't come soon enough".
"If confirmed, I would work very hard with Australia [on this]," she said.
"Australia has a very active embassy in every Pacific Island nation, and it's been a historic area of US engagement as well."
Ms Kennedy will also play a significant role in progressing the AUKUS military alliance, as Australia looks to secure nuclear-powered submarines.
