"CNN said in a press release that in the episode "residents candidly discuss their staunch views on the second amendment, Donald Trump, life beyond the coal industry, and the reclamation of West Virginian cuisine."

 

The famous foodie said that the experience helped him view the 2016 election and political climate from the point of view of West Virginians. Trump won the state by more than 40 points in 2016.

 

โ€œWe do ourselves a real disservice โ€” those of us on the left, those of us who see Trump as an anathema โ€” to look at everybody who voted for him as an ideologue, a true believer, as a hick or a rube or somehow beneath us,โ€ Bourdain told Travel and Leisure. โ€œI want people of my political stripe to rethink, or accept the possibility that thereโ€™s another way of thinking.โ€
