White House Unveils $400M More In Military Aid To Ukraine, Marking 15th Package

"Heavy artillery platforms, like howitzers and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, sit high on Ukrainian military wish lists," CNBC writes, citing the source. "The official said the latest security package will include four additional HIMARS, which brings the total number of HIMARS transfers to Ukraine from U.S. arsenals to 12."

The total in US military and humanitarian aid so more is more than $7 billion given since February.

The longer-range HIMARS are being sought by the Zelensky government as potentially game-changing given they allow the Ukrainians for the first time to strike Russian military stockpiles and command centers that extend deeper behind enemy lines.

Axios details of some of the major US-supplied currently operational in eastern Ukraine after the several rounds of weapons systems were transferred, and as Ukrainian troops get trained on them:

A senior defense official said the other eight systems are all operational, and that the pace of deliveries was dictated by the rate at which Ukrainian units are being trained to use the systems, which were not previously part of the Ukrainian arsenal.

The U.S. is also sending three tactical vehicles, spare parts and other equipment. The official would not say what type of artillery ammunition was being provided, only that it would allow for more precise targeting than had previously been possible.

At the same time, Americans are now flatly being told by the Biden administration that "we are in a time of war…" In a hard-hitting interview which put Biden official Heather Boushey on the defensive, she actually suggested the US is at war with Russia in Ukraine. Interestingly enough this comes a couple months after Biden admin and defense officials insisted it's not a proxy war. Well, which is it?

Heavily armed police on Friday swarmed around the Capitol Hill rowhouse where former Trump White House adviser Stephen K. Bannon lives after receiving a false report that a man with a gun was inside and had shot someone, according to authorities.

Police shut down streets near the Supreme Court and the Capitol for about one hour, prompting fears of an active shooter. About 12:30 p.m., police reopened the streets after determining that there was no shooting, no weapon, no threat and no victim.

Police initially told The Washington Post that they had encountered a person who claimed to be armed and who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis, but they found no gun and no one injured. A D.C. police spokeswoman later said someone had called a crisis hotline and reported that a man inside the rowhouse in the 200 block of A Street NE had shot someone and had a firearm.

Republican Lawmaker Requests TikTok To Testify Over US Data Accessed From China

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has requested tiktok appear before the Senate for a hearing over concerns that the China-based video-sharing app has access to U.S. data.

The lawmaker together with eight colleagues, including Ted Cruz (R-Fla.) and Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), raised the issue with the company in a June 27 letter (pdf.) that followed a BuzzFeed report published June 17 based on leaked audio from 80 TikTok internal meetings.

BuzzFeed reported that 14 statements made by nine different TikTok employees indicated that “engineers in China had access to U.S. data between September 2021 and January 2022, at the very least.”

The news outlet also referred to “one Beijing-based engineer as a ‘Master Admin’” who “has access to everything.”

According to BuzzFeed, U.S. engineers had to rely on their China-based colleagues “to determine how U.S. user data was flowing,” as they are not allowed to access the data on their own.

The detail was confirmed by eight different employees in nine statements.

The article pointed out that the statements bear a stark contrast to the sworn testimony by a TikTok executive in an October 2021 Senate hearing that a “world-renowned, U.S.-based security team” handled access to user data.

Accused of Misrepresentations

In their letter, the lawmakers pointed to the TikTok statement and alleged the Chinese company of misleading congressmen in relation to user data access.

“It appears that TikTok is now taking steps to deflect from its own knowing misrepresentations by changing the way in which ‘protected’ data can be accessed by its employees,” the letter further read.

The lawmakers continued to bring up 11 questions seeking clarification from the Chinese entity on various matters including why should Chinese staff gain access to U.S. data; whether employees of bytedance—TikTok’s parent company—have access to U.S. data and whether TikTok shares its U.S. data with the Chinese regime etc.

Bring On The Lawsuits: Elon Musk Terminates Deal To Buy Twitter

Many were wondering how the Musk-Twitter takeover saga ends, or rather, who will be the first to sue.

Late on Friday, Elon Musk decided to resolve the debate by effectively breaching his contract signed three months ago, and making a Delaware lawsuit inevitable, by announcing in a 13D filing that he is terminating his Twitter merger agreement, and claiming that "Twitter is in material breach of multiple provisions of that Agreement, appears to have made false and misleading representations upon which Mr. Musk relied when entering into the Merger Agreement, and is likely to suffer a Company Material Adverse Effect."

Of course, none of that will stick as Elon waived all rights to rework the deal when he signed the purchase agreement on April 25, and now it will be up to either i) a judge to impose the original deal, an outcome which will likely take place after several years of lawsuits or ii) to renegotiate the purchase price lower.

Stacey Abrams raises $22 million in two months, tripling haul of rival Brian Kemp

The Abrams campaign touted over 240,000 small donors who contributed $100 or less since December

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams brought in nearly triple the total fundraising haul of her Republican rival over the months of May and June.

The campaign directly raised $9.6 million during those months, an Abrams spokesperson told The Hill, with the One Georgia Leadership Committee raising another $12.3 million on her behalf.

The Abrams campaign touted over 240,000 small donors who contributed $100 or less since December, when the campaign began, according to the outlet. If further has $18.5 million in cash on hand.

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, by contrast, brought in $3.8 million directly to his campaign in the same May through June period with the Georgians First Leadership Committee PAC raising a further $3 million.

Abrams' combined total of roughly $22 million, more than triples Kemp's sub-$7 million figure.

The pair last faced off in the gubernatorial race in 2018 with Kemp ultimately claiming a narrow win.

Gov. Kristi Noem Warns Biden Letting China Buy Chemical, Fertilizer, Food Processing Companies and Land in U.S.

Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), author of Not My First Rodeo: Lessons from the Heartland, warned of China’s procurement of U.S.-based food production assets on Friday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast with host Alex Marlow.

Noem described foreign acquisitions of U.S. food production infrastructure and arable land as a threat to national security.

“I have been talking about food security as a national security issue for about 15 years, now, being involved in farming and ranching,” she remarked. “I was very young when I started working on federal policy, because the United States has always embraced a policy where we believed it was important to grow our own food in this country, and I’m a strong believer that when another country controls our food supply, that’s when they truly control us.”

She continued, “If we think a pandemic was scary, wait until we realize that we can’t put food on the grocery store shelves because China controls the entire system, and what most of America hasn’t been paying attention to, is that China — for years — has been buying up our chemical companies, our fertilizer companies, our processing systems, and now they’re buying land, and we have foreign countries that are heavily invested in that entire supply system.”

“We are losing control of the ability to feed our people,” she warned, “and that’s what is challenging us today. We finally are waking up to that, but it is going to be a serious situation that this administration needs to recognize they have a huge role in, and all they’ve done is strengthen our enemies and given them more ability to control our food supply which makes us in a very precarious situation as a country.”

Noem described big city life as a possible frustrater of human social instincts and needs. Small towns, she said, tend to afford a level of familiarity and depth of social interaction that she assessed as lacking in big cities.

“[I benefit from] an incredible perspective that so many people in this country don’t get to have,” Noem said of her life in South Dakota, “and they don’t realize how much they need it — that interaction and sense of community, and people who wave when they drive by on the road and stop and smile and ask how your day is going — is what keeps us human.”

She went on, “It feeds our souls and it helps our mental health, as well. I think so many people are constantly challenged with the busyness, the noise, and the lack of personal interaction that happens many times in big cities. [It] really does affect them long-term, and it would be good for everybody to get out and be in the country, and be in being smaller towns where people can relax and just understand that we’re all a part of humanity, and we were all created to love each other.”

Noem also warned of fatherlessness as a widespread problem across America.
