If you were reading the teachings of Christ in the Bible and taking them more literally, you'd stop putting God inside a box that can only be presented one way (Christianity!!!). Nowhere does he say non-Christians perish in Hell. You're thinking of Paul and the zealots that were trying to form an all encompassing religion that attempted to prove all others wrong.
Think of it this way. There are few scriptures between old and new testament that parallel each other more than these:
Old Testament:
Jeremiah 17:10
"I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve."
New Testament:
John 14:16
"Jesus answered, โI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.""
Plain and simple? You want to unlock the keys to heaven? I challenge you to take a month and read ONLY the texts in
RED
Asking Jesus to come into your heart isn't how you get into heaven. It's merely a proclamation of changing your world view to live your life as Christlike as possible. It's less "mental" and more "heartfelt". Once you get the heartfelt down, and truly begin emulate Christ, the mental comes later in realizing that the true power of Christianity is the impact it has on others that observe your behavior, and want to emulate you, as you emulate Christ.
This is how you get into heaven. Not paying tithes. Not dunking your head in water. Not chastising those that find God in their own way through their own religion. It starts with the heart, and ends with the mind.
