>some thought might be just planes in the direction of Heathrow. (Would be quite a dogfight over Hearhrow though, in my humble opinion, if they are just plane lights.)

A CLARIFICATION- the original anon who speculated the stars/lights were plane traffic positioning for landing thought them bound for Heathrow. It should be noted that Heathrow is West of London and Gatwick airport is due South from Westminster. Some of the lights could still be air traffic to and from either airport. However, Gatwick is some 45 kilometers away as the crow flies. If some lights are air traffic, they could still be lining up before making making a turn West toward Heathrow and would be doing so closer to London than those from Gatwick.

>Wonder if it contains hints of time of day; and if the tidal depiction could thus provide a sort of reference point to situate the Q pics - ROT 1 AND LisaMI6 come to mind.

Sorry, just read anonโ€™s post. Am getting bad for just skimming posts without reading.

Found this for London Bridge 2013. Close enuf.

According to our tide chart, high tide was at 16:39. After sunset which was at 15:54.

So pic is a bit before 15:54 but definitely afternoon. The gangplank to TATTS is kind of lowish. So tide is still coming in.

A look at SUNCALC might narrow the exact bearing of the sun by the shadows noted on railing in the 22DEC TATTS pic.

This is one instance when I am happy to have been off in my original time of day/ bearing to sun estimates.

First, it looks like the Sunโ€™s shadow is lined up with that squarish concrete mooring with railings on top that juts out between the HISP and the TATTS.

When you line up the shadows with the Sun using Suncalc I get the time to be about 1:30pm.

Second, thatโ€™s a gud thing because of the lowish look of the TATTS gangplank. This means the pic is 3 hours til high tide. Still a lot of water to rise. There is not a lot of rise (in tide) in that last hour. So all gud to have more time until high tide.

>There is not a lot of rise (in tide) in that last hour.

What I mean by that statement is explained by the Rule of Twelfths for tides. Only 1/12 of the tide volume occurs in that last or first hour of the tide. See diagram.

Having 3 hours before high tide means HALF of the tide remains to come in.
