Basically the sun forms a shell from the dust gathered from the incoming galactic current sheet.
Already blew the atmosphere off Pluto and inverted the magnetism and direction of the spin of Neptune.
Earths magnetic shield has been weakening for about 170 years and increasing loss is quickening. The sun will blow that shell, in our lifetimes, and big changes will come to the earth. A re-set of life, if you will.
The continents will become uncoupled from the mantle and slide. Last time it happened was about 12K years ago at the Younger Dryas. Sahara, for instance went from lush grassland to the desert we know.
