Kerry Chant's big move on BA.5 wave: NSW top doctor slashes official 'reinfection' period down to 28 days

Covid sub-variants BA. 4 and BA. 5 can re-infect Covid patients in 28 days

Australian Health Protection Principal Committee issued a warning on Friday

The AHPPC advised reducing the re-infection window from 12 to four weeks

NSW Health followed through on Tuesday with Dr Chant announcement

There were 31,406 Covid cases and 13 deaths in Australia in the past 24 hours

NSW's top doctor Kerry Chant has slashed the state's Covid-19 reinfection period from 12 weeks down to 28 days.

The rule change means NSW residents who previously had Covid, will have to test for the virus again, four weeks after their isolations ends, if they are suffering fresh symptoms.

It comes after the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee issued a warning that BA.4 and BA.5 could quickly reinfect Covid patients.

'We’re urging people who have recently had COVID-19, even if they left isolation in the past four weeks, not to be complacent. If you develop symptoms again, make sure to test and isolate,' Dr Chant said.

Biden Administration Extends Protection for Hundreds of Thousands of Venezuelans in US

The U.S. government on July 11 extended protection for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan nationals who are in the United States.

Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, a Biden appointee, granted an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the approximately 343,000 Venezuelans who were in America as of March 8, 2021.

“This action is one of many ways the Biden administration is providing humanitarian support to Venezuelans at home and abroad, together with our regional partners. We will continue to work with our international partners to address the challenges of regional migration while ensuring our borders remain secure,” Mayorkas said.

TPS, established by Congress in 1990, enables the secretary of homeland security to give protection to immigrants from certain countries if the secretary finds the immigrants’ home countries meet certain legal criteria, such as being embroiled in an armed conflict.

Nationals of a country living in the United States are shielded from deportation through TPS, even if they are in the United States illegally.

TPS also enables the grantees to legally work.

Mayorkas, in one of his first moves as secretary, in March 2021 granted TPS to Venezuelans because he said their home country is “in turmoil” and “unable to protect its own citizens.”

Like many of the Biden administration’s immigration-related policies, the action differed from the course taken during the Trump administration, which had granted a lower-level protection to a smaller number of Venezuelan nationals.

Mayorkas’s grant only applied to Venezuelans who arrived in the United States as of March 8, 2021. Activists and lawmakers have pressed Mayorkas to give TPS to Venezuelans who arrived after that date, but the extension does not include such an adjustment.

Lawmakers from both parties had lobbied for an extension, including Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Marco Rubio (R-Texas).

“We ask that you acknowledge the deteriorating conditions in Venezuela since the March 8, 2021 designation and take the necessary steps to extend and redesignate Venezuela for TPS,” Van Hollen and other senators wrote to Mayorkas earlier this month.

Judge denies Bannon bid to delay contempt trial, blocks executive privilege defense

"What's the point of going to trial here if there is no defense?" Bannon's attorney said

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon failed to secure a delay to his contempt trial after a federal judge on Monday denied his request and also blocked the close Trump ally from using executive privilege as a defense.

Bannon will face trial next week for refusing to testify to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot due to concerns over executive privilege. Former President Donald Trump wrote a letter to Bannon over the weekend agreeing to waive executive privilege to allow him to testify to the Select Committee.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols stated that Bannon could not introduce specific evidence regarding executive privilege claims, CNN reported.

Evidence showing Bannon may have been legally excused from following the House subpoena will not be allowed at the trial, Nichols, a Trump appointee, ruled.

However, evidence will be allowed if it shows that Bannon purposely failed to comply with the committee.

"What's the point of going to trial here if there is no defense?" Bannon attorney David Schoen said after the judge's ruling.

The decision comes after the FBI revealed it had interviewed Trump's attorney, Justin Clark, who said the former president did not invoke executive privilege over Bannon.

Ukraine's attack on city in Kherson region 'reminiscent of Hiroshima' – official

The strike on Novaya Kakhovka was carried out with American weapons, local administration says

The Ukrainian attack on Novaya Kakhovka – a city in the Kherson region controlled by the Russian forces – with American weapons is a “crime against the civilian population”, Vladimir Leontyev, head of the city's military-civilian administration, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday night. According to him, there are victims, dozens of people were injured, hundreds were left homeless.

“Tonight reminds me of the terrible analogies of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which the United States carried out in August 1945. Almost the same thing happened to us today. There are already casualties among the civilian population, there are wounded, hundreds of people were left homeless, dozens of houses were destroyed. Hospitals continue to receive people. Many dozens of people are injured. We are shocked by this bombardment," he said.

Deputy head of the regional administration Kirill Stremousov told RIA Novosti that Ukrainian troops launched a missile attack on Novaya Kakhovka with high-precision American HIMARS rocket launchers.

A Russian ammunition depot exploded in the city, the speaker of the Odessa regional administration Sergey Bratchuk and adviser to the head of the Kherson region Sergey Khlan said.

“People’s windows are flying out, but they are still happy … Because this means that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are close,” Khlan said.

Sources of Russian TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies, in turn, say that warehouses with saltpeter were attacked, emphasizing separately that the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was not damaged, but the nearby market, hospital and residential buildings were.

“The information has already been unequivocally confirmed that a large humanitarian hub was located right a few meters from the missile hit, and a boy with a disability remained on duty there for the night. This is not some kind of heartbreaking story, it’s actually true. This boy died for sure. But the psychological effect that they want to achieve (in Kyiv) as a result of these bombings will not be achieved. This is a crime against the civilian population, first of all," Leontyev said, adding that he considers Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to be a criminal.

"When you give an order to bomb the center of a peaceful city, this is a crime, an obvious crime that has no statute of limitations. This is a real tragedy," Leontyev added.

The city of Novaya Kakhovka, a regional center in the Kherson region, came under Russian control on the very first day of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, February 24. Previously, there was no information in open sources that there were warehouses with saltpeter in the city.

124,000 Leaked Documents Reveal How Uber Spread “F**king Illegal” Ride-Sharing Globally

A treasure trove of more than 124,000 confidential documents known as “The Uber Files” reveals the inside story of how Uber aggressively pushed into international markets

The unprecedented leak to The Guardian and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and other media outlets shows how the ride-sharing service wooed prime ministers, presidents, billionaires, and oligarchs for access to their home markets between 2013-17.

The files cover Uber’s operations across 40 countries during a period in which the company became a global behemoth, bulldozing its cab-hailing service into many of the cities in which it still operates today. — The Guardian

Uber’s history of disregarding local laws and regulations and even conducting law-breaking activities were detailed in the cache of files containing emails, iMessage, and WhatsApp messages, including conversations with co-founder Travis Kalanick and top-level execs.

In a 2014 message to a coworker, Uber’s former head of global communications, Nairi Hourdajian, reportedly stated: “Sometimes we have problems because, well, we’re just fucking illegal.”

In an exchange between Kalanick and execs, the co-founder overlooked concerns about sending French Uber drivers to demonstrate against the taxi industry. “I think it’s worth it … Violence guarantee[s] success,” Kalanick wrote to colleagues.

There were also messages between Kalanick and Emmanuel Macron, who helped the company into the French market — it was noted that Macron, then economy minister, secretly brokered deals with opponents in the French cabinet to allow the company to disrupt Europe’s taxi industry.

In 2016, Kalanick met with then-U.S. Vice President Biden at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He messaged his staff about Biden’s tardiness: “I’ve had my people let him know that every minute late he is, is one less minute he will have with me.”

Russia Hoaxer Jake Sullivan Complains Iran Is Arming Russia

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, one of the key perpetrators of the “Russia collusion” hoax in 2016 and 2017, complained in a White House briefing on Monday that Iran is preparing to supply Russia with armed drones.

“Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs [unmaned aerial vehicles], including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline,” Sullivan told reporters, as he previewed Biden’s trip to the Middle East this week.

He added that Iran was suspected to be preparing to train Russian soldiers on how to use the UAVs. He noted that similar weapons had been used in the civil war in Yemen prior to a recent cease-fire — though the Biden administration and the Democratic Party had long emphasized Saudi Arabia’s role in shoring up the Yemen government, rather than the Iranian role in starting the conflict. Early in Biden’s term, the administration de-listed the Iranian-backed Houthis as a terrorist group.

Sullivan has helped lead the Biden administration’s efforts to renew the Iran nuclear deal, which President Donald Trump ended in 2018, partly because the original deal did not deal with Iran’s broader nefarious activities in the Middle East and beyond, including support for terrorism and rogue regimes.

As Breitbart News has observed:

Sullivan was implicated in Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, and admitted to Congress under oath in 2017 that he had briefed reporters about his suspicions of “collusion” between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Sullivan also testified, under questioning from Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), that he believed former NSA Michael Flynn had conspired with the Russian government — claims that earlier led to Flynn’s ouster. Ironically, Sullivan now holds Flynn’s job.

Shortly before Election Day in 2016, Sullivan issued a press statement claiming that Trump had a “secret hotline” to Russia via Alfa Bank. Subsequent investigations by U.S. authorities determined that the Alfa Bank conspiracy theory was false.

Last December, Secretary of State Antony Blinken acknowledged that a year of diplomacy with Iran had led nowhere. Nevertheless, the Biden administration has continued to continue to attempt to talk with the regime.

On Monday, Sullivan also said that President Joe Biden deserved credit for a number of successes in the Middle East, including containing Iran.

Sullivan also said that the U.S. is prepared to supply weapons and funding to Ukraine for its defensive war against Russia for “as long as it takes.” He said the U.S. aimed to strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table, at some later time.

Antony Blinken Listens to Chinese Diplomat’s ‘Updated List of U.S. Wrongdoings’ at 5-Hour Meeting

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presented his American counterpart, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, with four separate lists of Communist Party demands during a meeting this weekend, which included an “updated list of U.S. wrongdoings that must stop.”

The meeting took place on Saturday in Bali, Indonesia, where both top diplomats had stopped on simultaneous Asia tours meant to shore up influence for their respective countries in the region. The Chinese government propaganda outlet Global Times reported that Wang and Blinken engaged in a contentious five-hour dialogue in which Wang lectured Blinken on topics such as lifting Trump-era tariffs on the Communist Party and ceasing the partial support America lends to the democratic nation of Taiwan. The state newspaper called the five-hour conversation session “efficient” and praised Wang for his “sternest” confrontation of Blinken yet.

Blinken has made a habit of marathon meetings with Wang, senior Politburo member Yang Jiechi, and other top communists since President Joe Biden took office in early 2021. The inaugural session, which also featured Yang and American National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, featured a public element in which Yang ranted for 16 minutes about “Black Lives Matter” and racism in America with little pushback from the American counterparts – despite China currently engaging in multiple acts of genocide and being embroiled in a growing number of racist scandals such as the implementation of “apartheid” work sites in Africa and Chinese nationals tricking African children into making racist videos for state-controlled social media sites.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed to reporters on Monday that Wang had delivered his list of grievances about the United States to Blinken during the meeting, as well as three other lists of demands: a list of Congressional bills that China wants to kill, a list of “key individual cases that the U.S. must resolve,” and a list of areas in which China wants cooperation. Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin identified “climate change, public health and people-to-people exchange” as areas of cooperation but did not list all eight of the alleged areas. He similarly did not specify what items were on the other lists.
