Man turns himself in to authorities after murdering man while noodling in Pontotoc County

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. (KOKH) — On July 10, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was requested by both the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office to aid in a murder investigation that took place a day earlier.

According to the Seminole and Pontotoc Sheriff's Office, Larry Sanders, 53, reported that he killed Jimmy Knighten by the South Canadian River while they were noodling in the river on July 9.

Sanders reported to officials that an argument had broke out which led him to strike and strangle Knighten.

Sanders was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant and was booked into the Ponototoc County Jail. However, on July 10, Knighten's body was found by Pontotoc and Seminole Counties' sheriff deputies and OSBI agents, leading OSBI agents to arrest Sanders for Murder in the First Degree.

The Medical Examiner is working on determining how exactly Knighten died.
