Secret Service worker sent home after attacking woman in Israel: report

"A Secret Service worker in Israel ahead of President Biden’s visit to the Middle East was sent home from Jerusalem after physically assaulting a woman outside a bar, CNN reported Wednesday.
The Secret Service confirmed to The Post that the agency was informed late Monday that an employee was “allegedly involved in a physical encounter.”
“The employee was briefly detained and questioned by Israeli police, who released him without charges. The employee has returned to the United States,” the agency said in a statement, adding that the alleged assault was not sexual in nature.
The employee’s access to Secret Service systems and facilities has also been suspended pending further investigation.
Further details about the encounter, including how it started, were not immediately clear. According to CNN, the employee was a member of the Secret Service’s Counter Assault Team.
Biden arrived in Jerusalem Wednesday on the first leg of a four-day trip to the region. In the coming days, the president is scheduled to travel to the West Bank before going on to Saudi Arabia to meet with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
Monday’s incident is not the first time the Biden administration has been forced to send Secret Service officers back to the US from a foreign trip.
In May, two employees — an agent and an armed physical security specialist — were sent home after an alcohol-fueled confrontation with a local cab driver ahead of Biden’s trip to South Korea. The incident reportedly took place outside the hotel Biden later stayed at in Seoul.

A San Antonio woman held two brothers hostage for days in exchange for $2,000 in ransom money, according to local reports in Texas.

Reynaicela Alcasar, 44, was part of a groupwho held the men for two days in June, according to KSAT. The victims, 27 and 35, were kidnapped and threatened with injury or death, the station reported.
The hostages’ sister called police and told them her brothers were being held against their will and that the kidnappers were demanding money in exchange for their return.
Alcasar went to a San Antonio Walmart with the victims, where they cashed a $2,000 Western Union wire transfer. The woman was also captured on the store’s surveillance video.
Police say Alcasar was the one who collected the money, but other suspects who have not been identified have also been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Alcasar is charged with aggravated kidnapping and is out of jail after posting bond, according to court records.
NYPD’s blunt decision: No more marijuana testing for police officers

Pot testing for NYPD police officers has gone up in smoke.
The city has ordered the country’s largest police department to stop testing cops for marijuana use, officials said.
“The New York City Law Department has directed the NYPD to cease all random, scheduled and pre-employment testing for marijuana,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
“The Department will continue to administer marijuana screenings to personnel when there is indication of impairment and is reviewing its current policies in light of this directive.”
Previously, a police officer would be automatically fired if they tested positive for marijuana, a process referred to as being “doled out” in policespeak.
But The Post obtained a memo from the NYPD’s deputy commissioner of legal matters dated July 11 that states “starting immediately, the department should only drug test a member of service for marijuana if there is reasonable suspicion that the member is impaired by marijuana on the job.”
The memo cites a citywide order that came out in April prohibiting agencies from testing employees for marijuana because a test can’t determine whether the person used the drug on the job or on their personal time.
The memo points out that cops can still be tested for other drugs.
Not all members of the department gave the change a high grade.
“I don’t agree with it at all, but I’m an old-time cop,” one police officer with decades on the job said. “I think it sets a bad example. What’s next, shooting heroin?”
A Manhattan cop with more than two decades on the job agreed and added that he believed the NYPD was making the move to lower standards so more candidates could be hired to make up for a jump in recent retirements.
“This is unreal,” a police officer with more than two decades on the job said, initially questioning if the end to pot testing was “fake news.”
“This is all for people who can’t get into the academy because they test positive for marijuana,” the cop said. “I guess you’re going to rehire all the people who doled out? This department is going downhill. What happens if the person shoots and kills somebody and they find out they were high on marijuana?”
