WinCo no longer taking credit cards as a form of payment at OKC metro locations

This anon has a feeling, this is going to catch on…

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — WinCo announced in a Facebook post that it's no longer taking credit cards as a form of payment at stores in Oklahoma City, Midwest City, and Moore.

The policy goes into effect as of August 1.

The company said the move was done due to high inflation and credit card transaction fees.

"At WinCo, our goal is to offer the same quality products other stores offer, but at overall combined lower prices. There are many different strategies and features that help us accomplish this; and eliminating credit card fees is one of them," WinCo wrote on Facebook. "At this point, the rates we pay on every credit card transaction are drastically higher than the rates for debit cards, and while other stores simply pass this cost to their customers via higher prices throughout their stores (or additional fees), with rising costs of inflation it has become extremely difficult to absorb that added expense while staying true to our mission of being the area's supermarket low price leader."

Some WinCo shoppers believe credit card companies need to lower their fees, "We love doing our shopping here. So it's a credit card companies will lower their fees, pass it on to them, they pass it on to us, much happier world," said a WinCo shopper.

Other shoppers are surprised and upset at the news.

"Really disappointed because that's all I used as a credit card here. I don't carry cash anymore and I don't like using a debit card," said Wendy Anderson. "I guess I'm just gonna have to find somewhere else to shop."

Some say this will not help solve the current inflation issue.

"It ain't going to or make no difference with the price. The prices are still high. They talking that it's cheap. They're not cheap," said Tahira Pieore. "They need to leave it alone and let it be, and bring the prices down. So we can get some food in our houses."

Some shoppers are unsure if they will continue to shop at WinCo because of the policy change.

"I really don't know it. I don't ever use a debit card. I always use a credit card," said Patrice Esperilla. "Because I drive a little to get here. So I might just stay local."

Customers will still be able to use cash, debit cards, check, EBT, WIC and WinCo gift cards as forms of payment.

>credit cards are how you give the bankers 3%

Yup, This change in their policy doesn't faze me. I have shopped at local Winco for 10 years. I think I may have used a credit card once. They are cheaper, and good service.I think its a smart move, all things considered. If ya can't pay for it, don't charge it, duh.
