You can also click the "Check Mark" on the very top and bottom menus to do the dns_bls bypass. That will keep Vanwanet out of your hair.
I haven't had to use the hosts file. But I do have to go through one round of the dns_bls bypass each day; just once.
Back in the change over from 8chan into 8kun folks were using massive hosts file that included the onion addresses. It appears that the onion addresses in the hosts file are needed. but not clearnet. I never used the hosts file for clearnet.
I never bothered with it. But Yuge listings for hosts were being passed around.
Come to think of it, I never needed hosts for plain, non-onion Tor. Bridged or Brave Browser.

The DNS is much clearer since this last hit. There were some very strange traceroutes just a few days back.
Vanwatech and qagg's DNS records were wiped. qagg still has a black DNS record. This cap was just done seconds ago.
Which is odd being all of Vanwatech's DNS is google. 8kun is not.
