Armenia, Azerbaijan FMs hold first bilateral talks

Officials said the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan met for the first time since the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

The Nagorno-Karabakh war claimed the lives of 6,500 people in six weeks before a truce, mediated by Russia, was agreed upon, leading to Yerevan ceding territory to Baku.

The talks, held in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, were expected to build on an agreement reached by the Caucasus leaders in May under EU mediation to "advance discussions" on a future peace treaty.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov "discussed a wide range of issues related to normalizing relations between the two countries."

Mirzoyan "emphasized the importance of the Karabakh conflict's political resolution for building a lasting peace in the (Caucasus) region" and urged Baku to release Armenian POWs, as per the Ministry.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed optimism on Friday that "the first meeting of ministers… will bring in a result."

Prior to the meeting, both countries' defense ministries traded accusations of starting an overnight shootout at their shared border.

Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in Brussels in April and May, and their next meeting is scheduled for July or August, according to European Council President Charles Michel.

IOF Chief of Staff to visit Morocco next week

Israeli media reported that the IOF Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, will visit Morocco next week, on his first official three-day trip.

The sources said that no Israeli chief of staff has ever visited an Arab country before, while other Israeli officials have, in addition to claiming that Oman, Saudi Arabia, or Somalia are "next on the list of normalization."

Last November, "Israel" and Morocco signed an 'understanding memorandum'. The agreement was signed by Israeli Security Minister Benny Gantz and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Loday.

Israeli media indicated that this memorandum on security cooperation between "Israel" and Morocco lays the foundations for concluding arms deals between the two countries.

It is worth noting that Morocco has previously received an Israeli security advisor and the Israeli foreign minister, but this is the first time an Israeli security minister pays an official visit to the kingdom.

Reports indicated that the Moroccan army is currently using three Heron unmanned aircraft, produced by the Israeli Aerospace Industries, which were purchased through a French company in order to hide its connection with "Israel".

Also, Moroccans use smaller planes that they bought from the Israeli company "Blue Bird".

Moroccan security forces received unmanned patrol vehicles manufactured by the Israeli company "Robotim", which is partly owned by the Elbit company. Also, Morocco recently purchased anti-drone systems made by "Skylock" from the Israeli "Avnon" group.

In February, the Moroccan House of Representatives announced presenting a draft law that agrees on air services between "Israel" and Morocco, making it the first agreement between the two parties.

The Moroccan parliament said that "the office of the House of Representatives received, last Monday, from the government, a draft law to approve the agreement on air services between Morocco and Israel, signed in Rabat on August 11, 2021."

According to the agreement, "the aviation authorities of each contracting party shall provide the aviation authorities of the other party, with information related to the movement of transport performed on the services approved by its airlines." The agreement also includes clauses related to "mutual exemption from customs duties, inspection expenses, and taxes that are not related to the cost of services provided on board the aircraft."
