The Colonists were citizens of England.

The Country of England considered the rebelling Colonists to be traitors, because the Colonists were English citizens.

Anyone who moved to the US after it became the US, should have understood that the rules were already set. Made by and for the English Colonists, who created their own Country to live in, with its own set of Rules, the US Constitution.
When you join a Club, you abide by the Club's already established Rules. You don't join the Club and then come in and try to change the Rules.

My ancestors came here in the Early 1900s. They came here because they wanted to be part of the Club, not to change the Club Rules. They learned English, they worked hard, and they abided by the Club Rules/Laws.
