Gunman ambushes Nat. Guard convoy carrying COVID vaccine in Tx, cops say

Harris' charges stem from an Idalou police investigation that began on March 22 when police responded to U.S. 62/82 about two miles east of Idalou where National Guardsmen reported a man threatening them with a firearm.

Harris reportedly approached the convoy with a gun drawn and identified himself as a detective. He reportedly told the guardsmen he was looking for a 41-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl and demanded to search the vehicles, the documents state.

The guardsmen told investigators Harris searched the vehicles and drove away.

However, as the convoy prepared to leave, Harris reportedly turned around, stopped the convoy again and demanded to search the engine compartment of one of the vans.

He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains.

He also faces a federal criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon. An initial appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge has not yet been set.

USC Researchers Win DARPA Grant

USC Marshall’s Larry Harris and USC ISI colleagues receive $1 million grant for research into new ways to protect financial data

“Self-Stabilizing Synchronization Over Secure Federated Knowledge Graphs for Multi-Lateral Market Structures.”

“The research will investigate how to better prevent financial data loss due to hacking or the failure of physical systems,” explained Harris, an expert in regulatory and practitioner issues in trading and investment management and a former SEC chief economist.

Harris will contribute knowledge about what data needs to be stored and how the market is organized, while his fellow researchers will analyze the data structures and new tools for storing data that might be more resilient to loss.

“Market-based financial systems depend critically on knowing who owns and who owes assets and contracts,” Harris said. “This project’s purpose is to ensure that the systems that record this information are as reliable as possible in the face of unknown attacks by hackers and the possible physical loss of storage devices.”
