Missouri sheriff vows to keep gun-owner data from FBI

But FBI denies it is seeking the information

As the FBI conducts audits into Missouri's issuance of concealed-carry permits, one county sheriff refuses to hand over information on gun owners in his constituency.

“As the sheriff of Scotland County, I want all my citizens to know that I will not allow, cooperate or release any CCW information to the FBI, even at the threat of a federal arrest,” said Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney, according to the Epoch Times.

“Point blank, I will go down with the ship if need be," he said. However he may not need to follow through on his pledge as the FBI denies it is seeking access to the information the sheriff has vowed to protect.

“At no point would auditors require access to lists such as state-approved concealed carry holders, nor would the CJIS Division retain information beyond what is necessary to address a specific compliance concern,” the bureau said.

Missouri is a constitutional carry state and therefore does not require residents to have a permit before openly or discreetly carrying a firearm for self-defense. It does, however, continue to issue concealed carry permits for the purpose of interstate travel.

The FBI audit comes after the leak of gun-owner data from the California Department of Justice revealed the personal information of concealed-carry permit applicants from 2011 through 2021.

Charity Commission to take no further action over £2.5m donation to Prince Charles charity

The Sunday Times reported the three lots of money, which totalled €3m, were handed to the prince personally by Qatar's former prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, known as HBJ.

The Charity Commission will take no further action over a donation of about £2.5m to one of Prince Charles's charities.

The commission, which regulates charities in England and Wales, said: "We have assessed the information provided by the charity and have determined there is no further regulatory role for the Commission."

The decision was made following reports that Prince Charles was handed €3m in cash stuffed into bags by a Qatari sheikh.

The payments were allegedly accepted by the heir to the throne during private meetings between 2011 and 2015, The Sunday Times reported.

The prince's office said the money was handed over to one of his charities who carried out appropriate governance and gave assurances that all the correct processes were followed.

The commission was considering whether a review into the donation was needed, but has now said it will not take further action.

It added that it has "no concerns" about the governance of the prince's charity and that trustees submitted information via a serious incident report.

Customers in NSW, QLD, SA impacted as power company collapses

Hundreds of customers across three states were warned they had 72 hours before their energy company would disconnect from the power grid.

Australia’s ongoing energy crisis has caused a power company to collapse, leaving 500 customers across three different states in limbo.

On Wednesday night, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) announced it had “initiated the Retailer of Last Resort process” against Mojo Power East Pty Ltd.

It means the small retailer is unable to keep providing electricity to customers and had to disconnect them from the grid.

Customer information was passed on to the AER to make sure they didn’t go without power.

They will now be transferred to retailers such as Origin Energy and Energy Australia, “who will contact them directly to explain the new arrangements” according to the regulator.

The move has impacted 500 customers in NSW, Queensland and South Australia.

There are concerns that their electricity will now be more expensive as they go with bigger retailers.

It comes as Australia is in the throes of a power crisis, with price hikes leading to soaring wholesale prices, which have increased about sixfold since April 2021 and have made it hard for smaller companies to survive.

Last Friday, Mojo Power warned customers that it was going to cut off supply within 72 hours.

Accordingly, this Monday the power company requested that Ausgrid disconnect those customers “as soon as practicable” after 4.15pm AEST.

By midnight Tuesday, customers had been automatically transferred to bigger retailers.

Then a day later, on Wednesday, the AER issued an official notice about the “failed retailer”.

“The AER applied the consumer safeguard after the company ceased the sale of energy to five local councils based in New South Wales,” they said on their website.

“This will ensure continuation of supply to essential services to Mojo Power East customers within these jurisdictions, including the affected local councils.”

A spokesperson told news.com.au, “The AER issues Retailer of Last Resort (RoLR) notices to ensure the continued supply of energy, ultimately to protect consumers.

“In this instance, the AER issued the RoLR as it was not satisfied that continued supply of energy by Mojo Power East (MPE) would have occurred to five local councils.”

Those councils appear to be in the Hunter Valley and Central Coast regions.

TV reporter Trent Evans sentenced over drunken high-speed crash

An award-winning journalist who killed his friend in a drunken high-speed crash has been handed a hefty prison sentence.

The final act in the public and stunning fall from grace of a former Channel 7 reporter has been played out in a Melbourne courtroom.

Trent Evans, 45, was sentenced to seven years and 10 months in prison at the Victorian County Court on Thursday morning for drunkenly crashing a car in Melbourne’s east in April last year, killing passenger and friend Rex Willox, 44, immediately.

Evans, an award-winning reporter who “excelled” academically and professionally, was unshaven, overweight and nearly unrecognisable as he watched Judge John Lyon hand down his sentence from a prison video link.

The “very grave offence,” in the words of Mr Lyon, began when Evans arrived at Mr Willox’s Toorak home, where the pair began to drink multiple bottles of champagne.

A decision was made by the pair to drive to the north of Melbourne, where Evans was then living, in Mr Willox’s black Mercedes sedan.

Evans, who told police he was the “more sober of the two,” was driving at 112 km/h on Barkley St, Burnley, at more than double the legal limit when he failed to navigate a bend in the road.

The car struck a bollard, flipped, and killed Mr Willox immediately, while Evans spent three days in The Alfred Hospital.

The crash came during a tumultuous period in Evans’ life.

Here Are the Senior Biden Officials Entangled in Durham's Criminal Russiagate Probe

Several individuals connected to a 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign plot to cast Donald Trump as a covert Kremlin collaborator are working in high-level jobs within the Biden administration – including at least two senior Biden appointees cited by Special Counsel John Durham in his “active (and) ongoing" criminal investigation of the scheme, according to recently filed court documents.

Jake Sullivan, who now serves as Biden’s national security adviser, and Caroline Krass, a top lawyer at the Pentagon, were involved in efforts in 2016 and 2017 to advance the Clinton campaign’s false claims about Trump through the media and the federal government, documents show. Other evidence shows that two other Biden officials – senior State Department official Dafna Rand and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler – also are entangled in the so-called Russiagate scandal.

It’s not known whether these Biden appointees have been interviewed by Durham’s investigators. But as the probe widens, some government ethics watchdogs anticipate that Biden’s presidency could be pulled into the scandal, which saw the FBI abuse its surveillance powers to spy on a Trump campaign adviser based on Clinton opposition research.

Just as the Democrats have used their control of Congress to cast President Trump and the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol as threats to American democracy, Republicans are vowing if they regain power after November’s congressional elections to investigate the years-long effort to question Trump’s 2016 victory and undermine his presidency.

The top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Mike Turner, recently pledged to hold hearings and issue subpoenas "to get to the bottom of [Russiagate] so this never happens again, so we never have Americans having to distrust their own government because of the politicization of the FBI [and] of our intelligence community.”

RealClearInvestigations has learned that Congress has referred to the Special Counsel’s Office at least a dozen cases of potential perjury involving former Clinton campaign officials and Obama administration officials who have testified behind closed doors about their involvement in Russiagate. Hill lawyers and investigators have met with Durham’s staff about the criminal referrals stemming from the sworn depositions.

Republican sources say that the roles played in Russiagate by Krass, Sullivan, Rand, and Gensler may be among the first to draw attention in hearings. Although the full range of their efforts has not been made public, here’s what is known so far.

“The CIA is in cover-up mode about its communications with the [Clinton] lawyer implicated in a shady spy operation against President Trump,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “What is the CIA hiding about its role in this plot against Trump?"

Fitton maintains that what happened at the CIA could be an even bigger scandal than what happened at the FBI.

As one of the Intelligence Community’s top attorneys, Krass also was involved in Obama’s sudden decision after Trump won to make it easier for the CIA and FBI to root through raw personal communications intercepted globally by the National Security Agency, according to sources familiar with high-level legal consultations regarding the revision to spying rules at the time.

The departing president’s executive order relaxing rules for mining the NSA’s highly classified databases went into effect less than three weeks before Trump took office. At the same time, the White House rushed to preserve all intelligence related to Trump and Russia and disseminate it across U.S. agencies.

The order, known as “12 Triple 3," allowed the FBI for the first time to sift through large troves of incidental communications – including phone calls and emails – involving U.S. citizens, without NSA filtering or even wiretap warrants. In effect, agents could put advisers and appointees of Trump, along with their family members and friends, under warrantless surveillance.

The easing of longstanding restrictions on intelligence-sharing set off a massive fishing expedition.

The FBI didn’t have much time to exploit the raw intercepts before Trump put his own people in place. So in a last-minute scramble, it asked both the CIA and NSA to search their holdings and collect as much information as possible on Russian oligarchs and other figures for any links to Trump and his advisers – namely, Gen. Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, and Carter Page.

The information was hastily processed and compiled into analytical reports and shared with other agencies, as well as Congress, putting Trump and his presidency under suspicion before he could even take the oath of office. Some of the material also was leaked to the New York Times, CNN, the Washington Post and other major media – even though it was largely unsubstantiated.

In short, the new rules that Krass, along with other intelligence agency lawyers, helped draft making it easier to share raw streams of communications also made it easier to frame Trump as a Russian stooge before Obama left office.

Although Brennan’s appointment ended the day Trump was inaugurated, Krass stayed behind in her CIA job through the end of April 2017. When she finally resigned, she left behind a team of around 150 attorneys in her legal shop at Langley. They all remained in their positions in spite of the change in administrations.

Krass is not the only Russiagate-tied official who has resurfaced in the Biden administration.

In October 2018, TDIP blasted out an email to top Washington journalists with the subject line, “TDIP News Brief,” which attempted to keep the Alfa Bank hoax alive. The three-page bulletin, a copy of which was obtained by RCI, rehashed the alleged “connections between a computer server associated with the Trump Organization and servers associated with Russia’s Alfa Bank.” It speculated Democrats would subpoena information from “the server in question” if they regained control of Congress in the midterm elections the following month.

Rand’s resume on LinkedIn omits her role at TDIP (pronounced T-DIP), which is revealed only in the nonprofit’s IRS tax filings. A Democratic Party donor, Rand previously worked as a top aide to Clinton at the State Department. Before that, she served in the White House as a national security adviser to Obama.

Responding to grand jury subpoenas, her old colleague Jones reportedly has cooperated with Durham’s investigation.

Rand did not return requests for comment.

Establishment Tries to Take on Trump Again, This Time in Arizona

The old guard of the Republican Party in the state that once sent Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to the U.S. Senate is now laying it all on the line in a gubernatorial primary in an attempt to prevent the return of former President Donald Trump to power.

What has become a proxy war between Trump and several elements of the old donor class and seen skirmishes in other states like Georgia and Nebraska in gubernatorial primaries this year has now burst out into the wide open just two weeks ahead of the all-important August 2 election.

The battle that has been playing out all year has seen victories and losses for both sides — albeit far more wins for Trump and far more losses for the donor class establishment, though some early strategically-placed victories for the old guard had some wondering if Trump had lost his fastball. Trump is perfect in U.S. Senate primary endorsements so far this cycle, and also has a perfect endorsement record across 23 states after a win this week in Maryland’s gubernatorial primary against Never Trump Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R) handpicked candidate. But the establishment delivered victories for its candidates against his in a handful of places like Nebraska’s gubernatorial primary and in Georgia in several races. But Trump’s 147–10 record overall nationwide — many of these wins in heavily contested primaries, such as Senate races in Ohio or North Carolina or the gubernatorial primary in Maryland — suggests a former president firmly in control of the future of his party.

However, this Friday will foreshadow maybe one of the biggest tests yet, where Trump and his former vice president, Mike Pence, will both appear in Arizona, campaigning in separate parts of the state in support of opposing candidates. The split-screen just two weeks ahead of Election Day — while ballots are already out and people are already voting early by mail — is the most intense direct contrast this ongoing proxy war for control of the party has seen this year. It also comes immediately on the heels of Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), an ardent Trump foe, predicting that if Trump runs again in 2024 he will face a crowded field presumably containing people like his former wingman Pence, and possibly others like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a bevy of U.S. senators who might give it a go, or former cabinet officials who may be planning to run themselves.

While those battles are not happening yet directly in front of the public — they very much are playing out behind the scenes with consultants and party power brokers trying to change the landscape to deliver advantages to their favored players — Friday’s events in Arizona could very well be a major preview of things to come in the months and years ahead for Trump and for the party as a whole.

Trump’s candidate in Arizona’s gubernatorial race, Kari Lake, is a former longtime local television anchor running a fervently pro-America First campaign focused largely on taking on the Republican establishment. Lake will appear alongside the former president Friday for a rally in Prescott Valley. Lake told Breitbart News in an interview this month the “McCain machine” is at play in her race, a reference to the late Arizona Republican who served as U.S. senator for Arizona for more than three decades.
