The Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes misused $6.2 million in federal funds between 2013 and 2015
HIGHLIGHTS FROM ARTICLES:
-BIA did not review 2013 Financial Reports until 2016
-BIA did not identify financial errors
-Feds may force tribes to pay back $6.2M
-Tribes did not report $3.3M in spending
-Tribes 'comingled funds' instead of tracking by funding agreement or program as required
-Tribes spent $3.6M on equipment - well over the $500,000 limit
-Tribes took $2.6M for 'indirect costs' without getting the required pre-approval
-Tribes double-billed some 'indirect costs'
-Tribes spent over $4M for bridge built by Rieman Corporation but only $863,034 is reflected in the accounting system.
