Propane or butane ranges and canisters.

Pro tip for pasta. To save gas, soak your sketty in water for an hour or two before cooking. Once they've been pre-soaked, you don't even need to bring the water to boiling, as they'll cook well below that point. Important for conserving gas.

>My math concludes that a canister will last a week or less. Is that right?

Totally depends. Are you cooking three times a day? For how big a family?

Makes more sense to look at the combustion time you get from one canister and then gauge it to your situation accordingly. Stove rating also needs factoring in.

Hope this halps, fren.

>Youโ€™re better off stocking dehydrated fruits and vegetables, rice and beans and lentils, lots of meats, and stuff that others will value (honey, chocolates and other candy, cigarettes, liquor and wine, coffee, etc).

All of which anon has also done. Never talked about subsisting on sketty alone. As for fasting, have been doing that for years. When TSHTF, anon is eating maybe once every three to seven days, depending on level of activity. It's spouseanon and unprepped extended family who will struggle to adjust.

If you're drip pouring, figure it takes about 2-3 minutes on high flame to get a big mug's worth of water to optimal brew temp.

Your choice of pot / pan will affect efficiency as well.

"Now you might think that heating that cup or so of water needed to make an Aeropress cup of coffee will be faster to do in a small diameter pot. But that is not true, the larger the surface area on the base of a wider diameter pot will heat the water much more quickly than using a narrow diameter pot."
