re: Grizzly Bears

Quick tip, aim for the shoulder not the heart.

An old fellow once told me about his time hunting grizzlies. They always carried .50 cal side arms incase the bears got up close and personal. The hunters would always aim for the shoulders of the bear. Grizzley hearts don't pump too fast and their skulls are shaped to deflect objects. Direct head shots from side arms usually ended up glancing off. A grizzly in a full on sprint can cover a football field even when struck through the heart. If you take out the bear's shoulder it can't run as fast. If you take out both shoulders, it can't run at all.
