  1. The Justices appear to be completely controlled now, so that's nice.

  2. I never really paid attention to this one before.

Justice Kagan warns U.S. Supreme Court must maintain public confidence

Speaking in public for the first time since the court's momentous ruling last month that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide, Kagan stressed the importance of the justices staying in their proper roles as judges and not dictating public policy.

"I'm not talking about any particular decision or even any particular series of decisions, but if over time the court loses all connection with the public and with public sentiment, that's a dangerous thing for a democracy," Kagan said at a judicial conference in Montana.

Another Domino ready to fall-Peru. WW

Peru opens criminal probe of president after firing of minister

Peru's attorney general has opened a new probe of President Pedro Castillo, a day after the country's former interior minister accused the leftist leader of obstructing graft investigations of close allies, prosecutors said on Thursday.

The investigation was triggered by Castillo's abrupt firing on Tuesday of Mariano Gonzalez, who had served as interior minister for two weeks. The firing followed Gonzalez's decision to authorize the appointment of a special police unit meant to track down and arrest allies of the president who are under criminal investigation.

U.S. Vice President Harris is close COVID contact of Biden, official says

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/us-vice-president-harris-is-close-covid-contact-of-biden-official-says/ar-AAZPMir

Pretty weird, because when Camila had covid they weren't close contacts, and now that Joe has covid they are close contacts. Aren't they the same people and doing basically the same things?

Not even sure what "close contacts" is supposed to mean, because I haven't had the highly complicated medical training required for such secret knowledge, but the inconsistency tells me something's up.

Initially, former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton said that bitcoin was not a security. Then former SEC director of corporation finance William Hinman said that ether did not exhibit properties of a security. Current SEC Chairman Gary Gensler more recently undermined that latter view, saying bitcoin was the only token that he felt comfortable calling a commodity. The SEC has also sued Ripple for allegedly selling unregistered securities, referring to the token XRP.

The complaint today implies that the SEC is largely keeping with the view that the majority of cryptocurrencies are securities.

Interesting, here are the coins the SEC can just pronounce are securities, while the IRS has previously designated crypto a "property"

The assets were: AMP, RLY, DDX, XYO, RGT, LCX, POWR, DFX, KROM. They were each mentioned in connection with alleged insider trading.

I'm suspicious because this designation has nothing whatsoever to do with insider trading. It was simply a matter of coinbase employee(s) profiting on the knowlege of timeing for new coins to be listed on the exchange. This is going to open a can of worms.

On another note, be aware that these coins on the list will likely be restricted from trading on US exchanges, and to US customers. This is what they did with ripple XRP, even though the token still trades in non-US markets.

It's a big club and you aint in it.

Maybe nothing, maybe something. This is from today:

Johnston County town loses police chief, officers and clerks in single day

The Kenly (North Carolina) police force, the town clerk and the town’s utility clerk resigned Wednesday in a conflict with the town manager in the small Johnston County community. “The new manager has created an environment I do not feel we can perform our duties and services to the community,” he continued.

“I have put in my 2 weeks notice along with the whole police dept. Sharon Evans and Christy Thomas with the town of Kenly after 21 years of service,” Police Chief Josh Gibson wrote in a public Facebook post Wednesday evening. Kenly is a town of about 2,400 people in Johnston and Wilson counties about 45 miles southeast of Raleigh.
