Ukraine claims Russia targeted major port city

The alleged attack did not damage grain storage at the facility, according to the Ukrainian military

Ukraine has claimed that Russia launched a cruise missile strike on the port of Odessa, a major trade hub in the country's southwest. The claim, made by the Ukrainian military and officials, comes a day after a UN-brokered deal to unblock the nation's grain exportswas reached.

At least four cruise missiles were used to target the facility, a spokesman for the Odessa military administration, Sergey Bratchuk, said. Two of the projectiles were intercepted, while the two others hit the port’s infrastructure, he claimed.

Footage circulating online purports to show a plume of smoke rising above the port, as well as an object appearing to be a small boat on fire. Other images show an apparent explosion of an anti-aircraft rocket in the sky above the city.

Russia deliberately targeted the grain silos at the port, a spokeswoman for Ukraine’s ‘South’ command, Natalya Gumenyuk, claimed. Still, the grain storage was not damaged and the port did not sustain “significant damage.”

Moscow has so far remained silent on the latest claims from Kiev. Russia has repeatedly stated that it exclusively strikes military targets in the ongoing conflict, which broke out in late February.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Ankara had discussed the incident with both Moscow and Kiev. “Russians told us that they had absolutely nothing to do with this attack and that they were examining the affair very closely and in detail,” Akar revealed.

Ukraine’s accusations come one day after representatives of Ukraine, Russia, the UN, and Turkey signed a deal to unblock exports of grain, food, and fertilizers from Ukrainian ports.

The “reported strikes” have already been “unequivocally” condemned by the UN. “Yesterday, all parties made clear commitments on the global stage to ensure the safe movement of Ukrainian grain and related products to global markets. These products are desperately needed to address the global food crisis and ease the suffering of millions of people in need around the globe,” Farhan Haq, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.

The EU has condemned the alleged strike as well, with the bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borrell taking to Twitter to call out Moscow.

“Striking a target crucial for grain export a day after the signature of Istanbul agreements is particularly reprehensible and again demonstrates Russia’s total disregard for international law and commitments,” Borrell asserted.

Erdogan’s photo with Putin branded ‘challenge’ to NATO

Ankara’s membership in alliance makes picture of the Turkish and Russian leaders “incomprehensible,” Germany's foreign minister claimed

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has branded a recent joint photo of Vladimir Putin with Recep Tayyip Erdogan a challenge to NATO. The image was shot during a meeting between the Russian and Turkish leaders in Iran.

The photo features the three presidents, with host Ebrahim Raisi in the middle, holding hands and smiling. In an interview with Bild published on Saturday, Baerbock noted that this picture is “more than incomprehensible” for her, “especially from the point of view of a NATO member.”

While being part of the alliance, Turkey has deviated from other member states in choosing a neutral stance in the Ukraine conflict. NATO as a whole officially considers Russia a threat.

“The fact that the Turkish president is in this photo is a challenge, to put it mildly,” she said.

In her opinion, the photo proves the importance of standing together “with value partners” who “not only believe in the international rules, but stand up for them.”

“Because there are other actors who do not stand up for our values, and when in doubt they also join forces,” she explained.

The trilateral negotiations in the Iranian capital were held earlier this week as part of the so-called Astana Peace Process, which was launched by Moscow, Tehran and Ankara in 2017 with the aim of achieving a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Syria. Putin also held bilateral talks with each of his counterparts. The situation in Ukraine was on the agenda of both meetings.

Meanwhile, Turkey, along with the UN, played the role of mediator in brokering the deal between Russia and Ukraine to unblock grain exports from Ukrainian Black Sea ports. The agreement, dubbed by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as “a beacon of hope, possibility & relief,” was signed on Friday in Istanbul, in the presence of Erdogan.

>>16787142, >>16787672, North Carolina Entire police force quits over manager who held 'progressively responsible positions' - wapo examiner and fox

Entire Fox Article

“An entire police department in North Carolina resigned Friday after the hiring of a new town manager.

Police officers and other officials in the small town of Kenly have submitted mass-resignation letters citing stress, a hostile work environment and an inability to continue the department's long-term betterment projects.

In a letter to Town Manager Justine Jones, Police Chief Josh Gibson expressed regret toward the negative changes he felt were occurring in the department.

"In my 21 years at the Kenly Police Department, we have seen ups and downs. But, especially in the last 3 years, we have made substantial progress that we had hoped to continue. However, due to the hostile work environment now present in the Town of Kenly, I do not believe progress is possible," Gibson wrote.

Neither the police department nor Jones has been willing to speak to the media on the nature of these complaints, local outlets report.

Gibson's letter was only one of several resignations that were made publicly available after the mass exodus.

"It is with a heavy heart that I take this action. I have been with the town since 2004 and fully expected to finish my law enforcement career with the Town of Kenly. Unfortunately, there are decisions being made that jeopardize my safety and make me question what the future will hold for a Kenly Police Officer," wrote officer G.W. Strong.

While all others addressed their resignations to Gibson, the police chief himself submitted his to Jones.

Jones was just hired as town manager last month after serving in various local government positions in other states. Her new position was celebrated by the Town of Kenly in a June press release.

"Jones has dedicated her career to public service over the last 16 years during which she worked in progressively responsible positions with local governments in Minnesota, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina," the town wrote in the statement. "She began her municipal career as the Executive Assistant to the City Manager and National Urban Fellow in the City of Norfolk, Virginia"

Police leadership and active duty officers were joined in their resignation by other officials.

"I have truly enjoyed working for The Town the last four years. Due to the current situations and the stress in the work area lately, my main concern is my health, and right now I need to focus on my wellbeing. The work area is very hostile and I will not let myself be around that kind of atmosphere," wrote Christy Thomas, utility clerk for the town of Kenly.

Some outgoing government employees kept their messages curt and to the point — including Town Clerk Sharon Evans.

"I will be retiring sooner than I had planned. This is my two weeks notice as of today. I can no longer work under the stress," wrote Evans.

Theres a real reason why Zelensky didnt take up the US’s offer to evacuate him

“The US offered to evacuate Zelensky from Kiev when Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine in February. Zelensky did not take up the offer. This week, Ukraine’s parliament approved the firing of Ivan Bakanov, the top official at the state security service (the SBU). Zelensky also removed the heads of SBU departments in five of the country’s regions. Bakanov was a close associate of Zelensky, and the pair had worked together since the latter’s days in comedy”

Interesting you say that, listened to a Kash interview with Benny, Kash said theonly agencythat could allow a contractor given a federal contract which was Joffree to burrow in acccess to the Oval Office was the NSA

And NSA actually paid Joffree and team to listen into the President and WH Oval Office, they gave him s federal contract, early in 2017, which I think Rogers didnt pass off to Nakasone to later that year. So someone either Rogers or someone under him approved spying in the President.

Kind of makes one rethink the reason why Rogers went to Trump towers, doesnt it?

I’ve listened to a lot of speeches by Rogers, havent been particularly impressed and why go to work for a foreign country after leaving government?

This also makes me wonder if Trump found out something on Flynn later, after he was arrested by FBI because he never pulled him back im as a advisor etc. He did pardon him but Flynn doesnt hang out with Trump yo my knowledge

Trump sees one way to end ‘persecution’ against him

The former US president has claimed that the attacks would stop if he announced that he won’t run for political office again

Former US President Donald Trump has railed against the congressional committee probing the US Capitol riot, arguing that the investigation is a “hoax” and claiming that political attacks against him would end if he vowed not to run for office again.

“If I renounced my beliefs, and if I agreed to stay silent, and if I stayed home and took it easy, if I announced that I was not going to run any longer for political office, the persecution of Donald Trump would immediately stop,” the former president said on Friday night at a rally in Arizona. “You know that, right? They would go on to the next victim.”

Trump was quick to add that he won’t bow out of politics, saying, “That’s not what I do. I can’t do that. I can’t do that. I can’t do that because I love this country, and I love you. I’m doing it for you, and it’s my honor to do it.”

Trump has repeatedly hinted that he will run for president again in 2024. Some of his critics have argued that he should be criminally charged for “inciting” the January 2021 Capitol riot, and he faces investigations by prosecutors in New York and Georgia. Rolling Stone magazine claimed in an article last week that Trump has told confidantes that he wants to win another term as president to evade his legal troubles.

Trump suggested just the opposite on Friday, telling supporters that his enemies are trying to destroy him to keep him out of office. “Where does it stop?” he asked. “Where does it end? Never forget: Everything this corrupt establishment is doing to me is all about preserving their power and control over the American people, for whatever reason. They want to damage me in any form so I can no longer represent you.”

The House committee investigating the riot is at the forefront of those efforts, Trump argued. He denied claims made by witnesses in publicly televised hearings of the committee, including allegations by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson that he threw food against a wall on one occasion and lunged at a Secret Service agent who refused to take him to the Capitol.

“They have me throwing food,” Trump said. “I don’t throw food in the White House. I don’t throw food anywhere. I eat the food.”

Trump held Friday’s rally north of Phoenix in support of the Arizona political candidates whom he has endorsed, including gubernatorial hopeful Kari Lake and US Senate contender Blake Masters. Earlier in the day, former Vice President Mike Pence campaigned for Lake’s rival, Karrin Taylor Robinson, in the Republican primary election for governor.

The August 2 primary will mark the latest test of Trump’s enduring influence over Republican voters. He and Pence, his 2016 running mate, may find themselves battling each other in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries.
