A person can be a Christian without being a Catholic or a Protestant. Those are just man made divisions. Catholicism is a cult. Protestantism is just a group of people who tried to point out that Catholicism was a cult and then broke away from Catholicism. The Catholics called them Protestors, hence Protestant. They didn't call themselves that.

I don't know how many denominations of Christianity there are.
All I know is that there are Christians, and there are people who aren't Christians. And some people who call themselves Christians, don't really understand what Christianity is about, and they aren't really Christians. It's just a convenient term that they use to describe themselves.
