during WWII, bomber pilots (my uncle) were able to turn on a "water injection" system when they needed an extra boost to get the fuck outta dodge PDQ.
it works because 1 cc of liquid water produces 1640 cc of water vapor (@STP). injecting a tiny amount of water just after cylinder combustion begins, transforms a large amount of the waste heat into useable thrust. on an aluminum air-cooled engine, the heads could only take the additional pressures for a few minutes, but that is merely a trivial engineering problem, solvable in a few minutes if they actually put forth the effort. that is only one of the dozens upon dozens of suppressed technologies that could improve ICE efficiency to well in excess of 200mpg with minor bolt-on tech that could easily be retrofitted to ALL existing cars. but guess who owns controlling interests in ALL car manufacturors? (HINT: it rhymes with FIG BOIL)
