Kirby [White House press briefing] says that Griner is being wrongfully detained under untolerable circumstances.

Reporter: Has the U.S. Government ruled out the possibility that the Saudi Government may have deliberately exposed [Bide] to the coronavirus?
Kirby: I don't know where this is coming from…I don't know what prompted you to ask it that way. The idea that a foreign nation-state would deliberately try to infect the president of the United States with a virus is ludicrous.
Kirby sneered with disbelief when a reporter stated that COVID is over.
Kirby: COVID is not over.
Jean-Pierre: Instead of standing on the side of law enforcement, instead of standing on the side of democracy, he [President Trump] stood on the side of the mob.
Jean-Pierre: The way that we see is that we are not currently in a recession, or a pre-recession.
Jean-Pierre claims that 'safety reasons' are among the reasons why she can't discuss details of proposed swap for Griner.
Reporter: A new poll shows that 75% of voters want the party to nominate someone other than Joe Biden as the nominee.
Jean-Pierre: We're not worried about polls.

Reporter: If things are going so great, why is it that White House officials are re-defining 'recession'?
Jean-Pierre: We're not re-defining recession.
Reporter: We all understand recession to be two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth in a row, and then you have White House officials come up here to say, 'no, no, no, that's not what a recession is. It's something else.' How is that not re-defining recession?
Jean-Pierre: Because that's not the definition.
Reporter: Brian Deese said in 2008, 'Of course economists have a technical definition of recession, which is two consecutive quarters of negative growth.' And then yesterday he said two quarters of negative GDP growth is not a recession.
Jean-Pierre: There are many factors, economic factors, to consider.
Reporter: The White House has identified 17 close-contacts of [Biden]…can you say whether any of those 17 individuals have tested positive?
Jean-Pierre: They have not tested positive.
