Ok - The 6ft ladder with a broom WORKED so far.
I used the handle end to push the reset button.
Broom anon's suggestion wins!

Ok I used the ladder and got on top of a tall dresser -
but I have to lean far and I'm 5" short of reaching it.
I'm afraid I might fall on the tile floor and break something.
It is a large newer smoke detector. Not a cheap flimsy one that I can break.
I tried hitting it and turning it, but it's too big and strong.
There is an alcove I might be able to reach with ladder,
but I would still have to lean. So it's either listen to this all night and hit reset every now and then,
or end up in the hospital with a broken arm/leg/head.
Hospital or more climbing and sleep eventually?
