After going into a rehab for a period of time,
they enter a sober living home before entering the world completely.
They can still work and go out, but they have support there.
Needing rehab at 20 and being in Hollywood since 12 acting -
and receiving great roles in movies and tv,
it is almost certain he was sexually abused.

I suspect sexual abuse, as I have found abusive directors in the shows he was in. (Dan Schneider and Katzenberg)
