A top Air Force Base officer who disappeared 35 years ago has been found.

William Howard Hughes, Jr. was arrested after a fraud investigation in California.

Hughes vanished more than three decades ago. He has been living under an alias.

Hughes told authorities Wednesday that he was depressed about being in the Air Force and decided to leave.

Hughes was charged with desertion and is being held at Travis Air Force Base.
