NYT’s Friedman: Media Should ‘Absolutely’ Pursue Hunter Biden Story

On Friday, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman emphasized the importance of the mainstream media investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings after his recovered laptop has reportedly shown some connections to his father, President Joe Biden.

With concerns over foreign influence being peddled to President Biden, Friedman told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that he was “all for getting to the truth wherever it leads.”

“Squawk Box” host Joe Kernen asked Friedman, “In your view, would you say there’s been a reluctance for major media outlets to pursue that story and is that OK, do you think? …Do you feel it’s important that we follow the evidence here to see where it all leads, whether the president’s son benefitted from influence peddling or whether even the president himself may have benefitted, President Biden himself, from influence peddling? Is it a story?

“Absolutely,” Friedman replied.

Bill Barr: Hunter Biden Investigation Warrants a Special Counsel After FBI Whistleblowers’ Revelations

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said on Thursday that President Joe Biden’s top law enforcement officer should appoint a special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation, following revelations by whistleblowers within the FBI that top brass were working to discredit allegations against the first son.

Trump-appointed U.S. prosecutor David Weiss is investigating Hunter and associates for tax violations and lying to law enforcement about illegally purchasing a firearm, CNN reported. Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Security Division, Matthew Olsen, on Thursday confirmed to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in a congressional hearing the agency is investigating Hunter Biden.

The case has been largely under wraps until Monday, when Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) revealed “highly credible” allegations of efforts within the FBI and the Justice Department to downplay or dismiss negative information about Hunter Biden. Bill Barr believes the credible allegations are enough for Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel.

“[I]ntervening events, especially recent reports about FBI whistleblowers and the possible reach of the investigation, warrant adding the protections of special counsel status to assure that key decisions are made independently without political ‘favor,’” Barr told the Federalist.

Garland has previously refused to say whether a special counsel should be placed over the investigation to maintain a just probe. But Garland promised not to interfere with the probe. “He is supervising the investigation and I’m not at liberty to talk about internal Justice Department deliberations, but he is in charge of that investigation,” Garland said of Weiss.

A special counsel would provide a degree of separation between Biden’s administration and the probe. Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley has said a special counsel should be appointed by Garland to study the Biden family business. Turley noted Joe Biden has denied any wrongdoing by Hunter and may have influenced the ongoing investigation.

China’s Version of Xi-Biden Call Features Major Differences from White House Report

China’s Xinhua News Agency and its Global Times government propaganda outlets described the phone call on Thursday between dictator Xi Jinping and leftist President Joe Biden as “candid,” highlighting Xi lecturing Biden not to acknowledge the reality that Taiwan is a country.

“Public opinion cannot be defied. Those who play with fire will perish by it. It is hoped that the US will be clear-eyed about this,” Xinhua, the state newswire service, quoted Xi as saying.

State media has repeatedly claimed that Xi has threatened Biden with some variation of the “those who play with fire” on past phone calls, but the Global Times nonetheless attempted to describe the use of the belligerent language in this call,which allegedly lasted over two hours, as novel, describing Xi’s remarks as “impressive.”

The Chinese government’s interpretation of the phone call, allegedly requested by Biden, differed from the White House readout of the conversation. Biden’s administration highlighted an alleged discussion on “climate change” and “health security.” While the Chinese media outlets mentioned Xi discussing the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, they did not indicate that the two held any meaningful talks on climate change.

The White House claimed the dictator and Biden “discussed a range of issues important to the bilateral relationship and other regional and global issues,” leaving much of the conversation confidential.

China’s version of the call also differed from what White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. Jean-Pierre claimed that Biden mentioned Xi’s ongoing genocide of Turkic people in occupied East Turkistan – a topic not mentioned by the White House readout of the call and a claim not corroborated by any other reporting on the conversation. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian allegedly told reporters on Friday that the claim that Biden mentioned the genocide during the call was a “lie.”

Biden has previously said publicly that he feels obligated to mention human rights concerns in conversations with Xi due to the morality of the American people, but does not personally judge Chinese communists too harshly for conducting genocide as their country has “different norms.”

“The two presidents had a candid communication and exchange on China-U.S. relations and issues of mutual interest,” Xinhua detailed. “Xi elaborated on China’s principled position on the Taiwan question. He highlighted that the historical context of the Taiwan question is crystal clear, and so are the fact and status quo that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China.”

The Global Times state propaganda outlet, citing its table of Communist Party-approved “experts,” proclaimed that Biden “desperately” sought out a call with Xi due to the poor economic climate in the United States.

“The economic pressure is a key reason whyBiden desperately needs to talk with Chinese leader, and since the US side also expressed the will to cooperate and keep communication, we have confidence in the two sides keeping open frequent exchanges between senior officials,” one such expert, identified as Jin Canrong, is quoted as saying in the article….

Lauren Boebert: Democrat Machine Working Behind Closed Doors to Bring ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban for Friday Vote

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) posted a tweet Friday morning warning that House Democrats are whipping up votes “to ban guns that are in common use.”

Boebert is calling attention to Democrat efforts to get the “assault weapons” ban back on track after a vote on it was delayed Wednesday.

Breitbart News pointed to a Roll Call report showing the House Rules Committee pulled an “assault weapons” ban from consideration Wednesday amid news that some Democrats were not going to support it.

But Boebert indicates Democrats are now working behind closed doors to gather enough votes to pass the ban.

She said, “As I speak, House Democrats are whipping votes to try and pass a ban on so-called ‘assault rifles,’ when they’re actually attempting to ban guns that are in common use by millions and millions of Americans.”

Breitbart News reported that the “assault weapons” ban being pushed by the Democrats would ban at least 45 specific AR-15 rifles and 30 AKs. The Democrats’ ban would also prohibit numerous semiautomatic pistols.

On July 21, 2022, Breitbart News pointed to National Shooting Sports Foundation estimates that there are over 24 million AR and AK-style rifles in circulation. This means there are more AK and AR-style rifles in circulation “than Ford F-Series trucks on the road.”

Report: Twitter ‘Rudderless’ as Elon Musk Legal War Rages On

Twitter isstruggling as a company due to falling morale, staff departures, and reduced spending by advertisersas the ongoing Elon Musk acquisition trial continues, according to multiple current and former employees. One former executive called the company “rudderless,” with a current employee remarked, “Everyone’s given up on leadership.”

The Financial Times reports that social media website Twitter is struggling amidst its legal battle with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, with falling company morale, staff departures, and marketers reducing their ad spend affecting the company’s $4.5 billion a year advertising business. One former executive told the Times that Twitter appears “a bit rudderless.” Adding that the company has been “forced to do what they didn’t want to do by a rich guy’s whim.”

Company insiders and ad industry executives told the Financial Times that Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal is leading a continually stressed effort to keep the company running smoothly as it continues its legal battle to prevent Musk from backing out of his $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter.

Agrawal has reportedly attempted to spend extra time with advertisersin recent months to answer their concerns. Twitter is reportedly blaming “uncertainty” over Musk’s company takeover and a slump in digital ad spending as some of the many reasons that revenue fell in the second quarter.

Tensions between staff and company leadershiphave also reportedly grown since the announcement of Musk’s takeover bid in April. On Tuesday, the company said it had “significantly slowed hiring” in the second quarter and had seen “our attrition rate increase.”

“Everyone’s given up on leadership,” one senior Twitter employee said. “It seems like Twitter’s take is ‘This man is awful [but] he should run the company. Either way it seems like the loser gets Twitter.”

An edit war broke out on Wikipedia this week over the definition of “recession,” as the Biden administration and the corporate media take the unprecedented step of denying the U.S. is in recession even after two consecutive quarters of negative growth.More than 70 edits to the page about recessions were made before the site lockedthe entry preventing further changes. The edits successfully de-emphasize the broad consensus definition of recession — two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth — instead parroting the Biden Administration’s talking points.

Editors of the leftist-dominated online encyclopedia are pushing a definition of “recession” that is unusually broad and favors the Biden administration’s claims that no recession has occurred. This definition, from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), claims that a recession is a ” significant decline in economic activity spread across the market, lasting more than a few months.”

What was until recently the broad consensus on the definition of a recession — two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth — remains at the top of the page, but editors have been attempting to remove it. This definition is also described as the United Kingdom’s definition.

The article continues to note, further down the page in a section on the definition, that “in a 1975 New York Times article, economic statistician Julius Shiskin suggested several rules of thumb for defining a recession, one of which was ‘two down quarters of GDP.'”

In response to the edit war,senior Wikipedia editors have locked the page on recession, preventing users from making further snap edits to it. Articles that become the subject of contentious “edit wars” are often locked in this manner by Wikipedia administrators — but the lock comes after leftists successfully muddied the waters.

The new prominence of the NBER’s definition comes after the Biden administration began citing it in its arguments, backed by a sycophantic media, that the U.S. is not in recession.

White House advisers have repeatedly refused to define what a recession is, but they frequently cite the definition outlined by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The Republican National Committee also dug up old quotes from Biden’s other economic adviser.

In May, Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers Cecilia Rouse said during a CNN interview that “Typically, economists date a recession as being at least two quarters of negative growth, and other factors, which we have not seen at all.”

That NBER definition is now littered throughout the Wikipedia page on recessions.

Swedish Politician Remains on City Council Despite Murdering His Wife

Socialist Ashkan Ekman Ekhtiari will keep his seat on the city council in the Swedish city of Kiruna despite being found guilty of murdering his wife and being sentenced to life in prison.

Ekhtiari shot his wife dead in January of 2020 with a hunting rifle as she slept in her bed and was found guilty of murder later that year. He was ejected from the Swedish Socialist party, under whose banner he was elected, but has remained on the city council despite efforts by other members to kick him off.

“We’ve raised that with the city council secretary and they’ve adjusted it at the last council meeting.It has been mismanaged simply because he is not a member of our party,” local Socialist group leader Mats Taaveniku said, Aftonbladet reports.

“We have tried to get him excluded, but that is not possible,” Taaveniku said and the local municipality does not want to pay Ekhtiari the compensation counsellors get either.

“It’s tough, unfortunately, there’s no getting around it even though it’s such a serious crime that he’s been convicted of and that we condemn completely,” Taaveniku added.

Ekhtiari has been serving his life sentence, which is to be followed up by deportation from Sweden, since the Autumn of 2020 but he has denied his guilt and claimed that the entire incident was an accident. His term on the city council is set to end with elections in September.

Ekhtiari is not the first Swedish politician to be convicted of crimes in recent years. Abdi Elmi, a former politician of the Social Democrats was arrested in Greece last year after being caught with passports that were not his own and may have been used to facilitate illegal immigration.

In 2020, Social Democrat Rashad Alasaad was also arrested after being suspected of facilitating illegal immigration. The 27-year-old, a Syrian migrant, was accused of charging thousands of euros to help migrants enter Sweden and obtain passport documents.
