Dick’s Sporting Goods hit with civil rights complaint over reimbursing workers for abortion travel

A conservative legal group has challenged Dick’s Sporting Goods over its decision to pay for abortion travel, arguing that the policy discriminates against female employees who choose to give birth.

America First Legal has asked the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to open an investigation into Dick’s for “multiple violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978.”

The sporting-goods giant announced last month that it will provide up to $4,000 to reimburse employees who travel out of state to obtain abortions, as well as their spouses and dependents. The benefit would also cover the travel expenses of “one support person.”

No Conspiracies Here!

According to Martin Short, writing after these events transpired, the Masons, in their efforts to garner public approval following the publication of The Brotherhood, went so far as to open a permanent exhibition at Freemasons’ Hall in London in 1986, “telling the official history of the English Craft. On show were portraits of kings and princes who were Masons, an ornate Masonic throne, a Grand Master’s apron, the symbolic tools of Freemasonry, jewels, regalia and silver-ware, Masonic theatrical bills and proof of the brotherhood’s charitable works.” Again, in a PR video titled The Freemasons, “brothers old and young, public school and working class, white and black, talked of good citizenship, morality, fellowship and charity… The film showed Masonry’s good works for the aged, sick, orphaned and widowed, and its gifts to non-Masonic causes.” (Martin Short, Inside the Brotherhood, 20-21).

Big Grain in Ukraine

One of Ukraine’s richest businessmen is killed in the port city of Mykolaiv.

MYKOLAIV — The first air raid alarm rang out over Mykolaiv at 1:01 a.m. and for the next four hours, explosions thundered as Russian missiles rained down on this already battered southern port city.

By dawn, a hotel, a sports complex, two schools, a service station and scores of homes were in ruins and emergency crews raced between blast sites were working to establish the full casualty count. But one of Ukraine’s richest businessmen, Oleksiy Vadaturskyi, and his wife were among the dead after what President Volodymyr Zelensky called “one of the most brutal shellings” since the war began.

Mr. Vadaturskyi’s company, Nibulon, confirmed that he and his wife, Raisa, died in their home.

Tributes to Mr. Vadaturskyi — who had been declared a “Hero of Ukraine” more than a decade ago for his contributions to society — poured in from across the country as news of his death spread. Mr. Zelensky called it “a huge loss for Mykolaiv and for all Ukraine,” later referring to Mr. Vadaturskyi as a “hero.”
