The D.S. may be benefitting on a multi-faceted level here. I don't know that Taiwan much cares who is in office, so long as they can maintain sovereignty. Obviously, one would think Trump would be more likely to preserve that sovereignty, but they have to play ball with whosoever is in power, whether legitimate or not. BTW, China has backed off on the rhetoric a bit saying "pray for her"… It's a more subtle and obtuse warning than before. That could be just what it appears to be or that could bereally bad.
