Possibly relevant historical cases:

  1. Michael Hutchence (lead singer of INXS). From wiki: Hutchence's body was discovered by a hotel maid at 11:50 AM. Police reported that Hutchence was found "in a kneeling position facing the door. He had used his snake skin belt to tie a knot on the automatic door closure at the top of the door, and had strained his head forward into the loop so hard that the buckle had broken."

  1. Stephen Milligan (British MP)

Milligan's corpse was naked except for a pair of stockings and suspenders, with an electrical flex tied around his neck and a black bin liner over his head, with an orange segment in his mouth.[5] The coroner concluded that he had died in the early hours of 7 February.[4] The pathologists report into Milligan's death discounted the possibility of murder, lending weight to the belief that he died accidentally, as a result of autoerotic asphyxiation. No drugs or alcohol were found in his blood, and no substances were found to have contributed to his death….Milligan's death significantly contributed to ending John Major's "Back to Basics" policy initiative.

  1. Gary Speed (Welsh soccer coach).

The coroner at the inquest reached a narrative verdict and stated that cause of death was by "self suspension", but that there was insufficient evidence to determine whether it was intentional as he may have intended to make a "dramatic gesture" and then "nodded off to sleep"….As a boy, Speed was coached by Barry Bennell, who was later convicted as a serial child sex offender.
