mutant births and tons of abnormal births of all species are saved in this manner.
go in any sort of college/uni science lab and you will find them.
the other way of preserving specimens is taxidermy. that is pretty much frowned upon with humans though.

we have been at this for millions of years and the earth works, just the way it is and has always been.
